A wonderful time today with my great friends and clients Mishel and Earl out of Crystal River. Red fish was our top priority today and leaving from Pete's Pier Marina just after 9am to fish the incoming tide, the conditions were just right. We tucked in to the back country creeks, began free lining live shrimp and caught several beautiful lower slot red fish. We didn't have any big bull reds today, but we did catch some hefty trout while targeting red fish and one trout made it over the 4lb mark. A fun day catching fish, taking pictures and watching them swim away. Thank you both for the great time and we'll see you tomorrow... Capt. Dan

I had a good friend of my family on board today from Maine and Dana, Drew and Wayne were ready to experience some Florida inshore fishing. Dana is a professional snowmobiling champion from Maine and has won the Maine's Quest trophy as a top achievement. Him and his crew met me at Pete's Pier Marina just after 9am and we did some sight seeing and fishing. Trout were first order this morning and the guys put six keepers in the cooler to secure plenty of fish for tonight fish fry. We had a fun ride through the creeks looking for red fish and Drew, even with a arm cast for a handicap, did great catching his first Florida red fish. The winds finally slacked up some and the afternoon was beautiful for a busy Crystal River Sunday. Thank you all for the great time and here's Drew with his red fish... Capt. Dan

Team Homosassa....

Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, Charlie Harris and Jody Johnson had the pleasure of fishing the Spearman party today out of the Homosassa Fishing Club. This is always a fun group and I had Matt, Brad and Bran on board for the day. My group had a nice catch of trout and a couple sea bass fishing offshore and inshore, while using a combination of DOA deadly combos and MirrOlure Lil' Johns. There was a separate big red fish pot for the day and Capt. Harris was the only one today to score a couple beautiful  Homosassa Reds for his clients. I thank you all for the great time and here's the entire group with their fantastic catch... Capt. Dan

It was the classic red fishing set up this morning; you pull up to a point, cast out a shrimp and fish on! Mel, Royce and Bill were on board and beginning the day with a couple red fish stretching our lines, it was a great start to the day. We landed a couple and lost a few, but the bite was good surprising the little amount of tide we had. After an hour of red fishing, the outgoing tide was dumping fast, so we ran offshore and had some mixed bag action. The trout bite was not as good as we had hoped and it was actually quite slow throughout the day. We did put five nice keepers in the cooler and released an assortment of sea bass, grouper, lady fish, sharks etc... drifting the spotty bottom areas. I thank you guys for giving it your all and here's Mel with his beautiful Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

Spoon Feeding Reds...

With the Mrs's having this Easter Monday off, I had my orders to find her a red fish. It was a fun afternoon of fishing and we left the dock just before noon and fished the afternoon high tide. Running to the back country creeks in Ozello in my Silver King skiff, I hopped up on the poling platform, poled for a couple hours and we caught some beautiful red fish. The old reliable 1/4oz gold spoon was our bait of choice and we had some great visual strikes in the skinny clear water. It was a perfect day for her to end her Easter break vacation and here's one of the red fish from today... Capt. Dan

Homosassa 1st time Reds....

The winds continued for us today and swapped out of the NE to push the water out. It was day two for the Craft part out of the Homosassa Fishing Club and a full day of fishing was on tap. I had Stewart, James and young Kate on board and we gave it our best in the choppy, white capping conditions. Starting the morning targeting trout, we put a couple keepers in the cooler on DOA deadly combo rigs, but once again, it was a slow bite for the majority of the day. The full moon tides were in our favor for the afternoon and the incoming high water over ruled the wind and we had a decent afternoon red fishing tide. Staking out on an outer key, we free lined some live shrimp and immediately landed a couple lower slot red fish. The reds saved the day for the slow conditions and I thank the entire group for the fun couple of days. Here's Kate with her first Homosassa red fish... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Tough & Windy....

It was about as tough as it could be out of Homosassa today and with 20 plus mph winds out of the West, we had to get creative in our fishing locations. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today with my good friend Capt. William Toney and we had the pleasure of fishing the Craft party. Having a shore lunch on order, the pressure was on to find some fish for lunch. The bites were few and far between for both boats, but we managed 1/2 a dozen keeper trout and a bonus sheepshead to have lunch covered. Lunch was exceptional and with an hour of the day left, we tucked inside the islands and picked up a last minute red fish to end our day. Not the best conditions and the fishing was extremely difficult, but we came through and we made the best of the day. Here's Marry Anne with her afternoon red fish... Capt. Dan

Absolutely perfect tides for targeting trout and red fish today out of Crystal River and Ed and Marty had a wonderful time. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and started the day jigging our way to a great catch of trout. With MirrOlure Lil' Johns on hand and a good incoming tide, we fished several locations and found some beautiful keeper trout at every stop. Using the root beer and watermelon colored jigs, the trout, sea bass, lady fish, grouper, mackerel etc... kept us busy through out the morning. Just before noon we had our limit of trout and hit the creeks to find some red fish. The red fish were very cooperative today and we totaled 11 reds with 9 making it to the keeper size to end our Crystal River charter. Thank you both for the great day and enjoy all the fresh fish dinners... Capt. Dan

All I can say is I wish you all could have been here for today's charter. Beautiful weather, fantastic trout and red fish action and wonderful clients; it was a great day to be a fishing guide. Clell and Lee were on board today out of Pete's Pier Marina and we started the day drifting over some spotty bottom in 8ft of water and the trout were chewing. Once again, the ever reliable MirrOlure Lil' Johns did the trick for the trout and a bonus pompano also came aboard for the day. The trout bite was great and by 11am, we had our limit. The west wind was pushing in the tide perfect, so we tried our luck for some afternoon red fish. Free lining live shrimp in the mullet schools in the back country of Ozello, we caught 1/2 a dozen healthy red fish and called it a day. Thank you guys as always for the great time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Today is the kind of day, why I'm blessed to be a fishing guide. I had a solo charter out of Macrae's and Larry was on board to experience some of Homosassa's finest inshore fishing. We began the day running out to about 5ft of water and jiging the shallow scattered rock piles and catching an assortment of species. Numerous trout, mackerel, spinner sharks, blue fish, lady fish, grouper, and the list goes on... made for an exceptional day. The trout bite was so good for the last two hours of the incoming tide, it was fish on just about every cast. Larry was having a blast, but the tide was actually coming in very well , so we hit the creeks and spoon fed some red fish. Using Johnson's gold spoons and fishing point to point, we boated 9 beautiful red fish, kept two and released the others. I can't thank you enough for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again in the future... Capt. Dan
