Crystal River Reds..

So great to be back on the water. The bite is a bit slow right now in general with the hot water temperature, but there's a few red fish out there. Chris and Mike were my guests today and we hit the points on the hard incoming tide. We free lined live pinfish for most of the day and this worked for the few bites we had. Live shrimp is scarce right now, but hopefully in the coming weeks the bait will return. I enjoyed the day with you both and here's Mike with his first cast of the day... Capt. Dan

Hot Weather Reds...

A fun day with Tony today and this was pretty much my first day back to work. I just got my boat back Monday from Young boats in Inglis, as I had it detail and some other work done to it. Young boats restoration did a fantastic job and it truly looks brand new. For today though, Tony and I hit the outer points with mullet activity and caught a couple nice mid slot red fish using live shrimp. We left the red fish and tried a couple shallow water grouper haunts, but unfortunately not one bite. The gulf is 88 degrees right now, so it might take me a little bit to see what going on after being off the water for so long. It's the dog days of summer out there, that's for sure. I thank you for the fun time and I'll see you in a couple weeks... Capt. Dan

The Novinger team was with me today and we had a fun time in the breezy conditions. Ed, Chad and Ted were the team and the guys caught some nice trout and a couple real beauty red fish. Live baits were the ticket, with pin fish being preferred for the red fish. I thank you all and I always look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

On the Water...

So good to be back on the water after my ankle surgery. Unfortunately though, I have some bad news which I'll talk about in a couple days which I'll be going through, but we'll talk about that later. Today with Jim, Dean and Larry we hit the flats and had a bit of a slow day, however we caught a couple. The wind was up out of the NW, so it limited me on where I could go. The fellas and I caught a couple trout and red fish, but the bite was off and all of us that were on the water experienced the same. Jim had big fish honors with a beauty over slot Ozello red fish and I thank you guys for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Slam...

We stayed inshore today with the stiff South wind and Chris and Frank did very well. The father and son team completed the inshore slam with a fine catch of trout, redfish and the ever elusive slot snook. DOA glow jerk baits were the lone producer and they caught all the fish for us. We released a couple under slot snook as well, and a hefty 33" red fish to top off the day. I thank you both and great job team... Capt. Dan

More WIND!!!

Once again the gusty East wind was our conditions today and it made it quite tough. I had Joe and Joanne on board and I was able to briefly make a sheepshead stop, catch a few; but the conditions quickly chased us back in to shore. The wind didn't allow much for the tide to come in, but we did pick up a nice lower slot red fish and a beautiful Crystal River snook to add to the day. It was a tough one, but I thank you all for the great time... Capt. Dan

St. Patty Sheep's...

Another gorgeous day on the big pond with the Clements party and the team did outstanding. Non stop sheepshead action began our day and the rods were busy. We put our fifteen in the box and then began hunting triple tail. We got lucky and found a floating log that had several under it and we picked up a pair of nice keepers. A trout and red finished up the day on the inside and I thank you all for the really great day... Capt. Dan

Almost a Record...

A really good day with Lee on board and we had beautiful conditions, to do a little bit of everything. Sheepshead was our main target and we caught some hefty ones. I was fishing too and as my rod went off,I hooked in to a beast. Well, long story short; it was my personal and largest sheepshead to date on board and turned out to be just 1lb from the state record. She did get released and hopefully in the future I will encounter her again. We finished up the day jigging up a couple trout, red fish and a very memorable day is in the books. I thank you Lee and here's the big girl of the day... Capt. Dan

Big Haul...

Much better conditions today and "Uncle" Phil was in town from Pennsylvania. It's always a fun time when he's here and we had an awesome catch today. A pair of red fish started our day on an oyster bar and it was two cast's, two fish. Sheepshead were up next and we soon enough had a fine catch. We left the sheepshead and ran down some triple tail for our mid day in between tide changes - they are always a welcomed surprise. To end the day we jigged with MirrOlure Lil' Johns and a good catch of trout made their way on board. A fun 1st day buddy and I'll see you tomorrow... Capt. Dan

Did Somebody Say WIND!!!

Holy Mackerel!!! It was howling today, but John, Bill and Wayne were ready to go for it. I ran out the Salt River and in to the gulf, but quickly turned around; as we tucked in the back country for the day. Using artificials were out of the question, as I kept it simple and free lined live shrimp under a cork. It worked out just fine and a nice catch of trout came on board and a bonus red fish for our 1/2 day trip. Thank you guys for coming every year and hopefully we'll have better conditions next time... Capt. Dan
