Last Trip for 2013.....

We wrapped up 2013 with a great Crystal River charter today and Kay, Bill and Todd loaded the boat. I picked up the gang at Pete's Pier Marina just after 8am and began the day jigging up a few trout. Very low water and a pretty steady North wind didn't allow very much tide to come in, so we made the run offshore and found the sheep's. The sheepshead action was great with several of them in all sizes and a handful of grouper caught and released too. Live shrimp on a knocker rig was the bait of choice and what a perfect day to end the year. Thank you guys for the fun time and look forward to our next trip... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Inside and Out...

Definitely a fun group on board with me today and we changed it up a bit. The Homosassa Fishing Club was in town and we brought the crew up to Crystal River. Myself and Capts. Mark Zorn and William Toney had the pleasure of fishing the Wait party and we loaded up. Big tout catches and mixed bags of sheepshead, sea bass, flounder, grunts and mackerel filled the buckets. My team did great and it turned out to be a beautiful day. I thank you all for a wonderful time and I hope we can get tomorrow in, with the coming weather... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout & Sheeps...

A fun day with a great father and son team out of Crystal River and these guys had a good one. Todd and Tyler were the team and they definitely kept the rods bent catching trout and sheepshead. The day began throwing DOA jerk baits on a shallow oyster bar and catching and releasing some beautiful trout. With our arms warmed up, our next stop were some offshore sheepshead. The sheepshead bite was outstanding and we landed well over forty, just keeping a bakers dozen for a meal or two. Tyler brought in a beautiful, hefty sea bass that was over 16" to add to the catch. A fun, busy fish catching day and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Pretty Day Offshore....

We're so blessed to have this great weather in December and the fishing is fantastic. Lee and Clell were my guests today and we continued with the winter pattern and tackled the sheepshead. The sheepshead bite was good, but the grunts were beating the sheepshead to the shrimp the majority of the time. Eventually, the grunts calmed down and more and more sheepshead came aboard. The bonito were around as well and we had some give our drags a work out again. With box full of fish, we ran inshore stopped on a rocky point, and finished the day with several red fish. Most of the reds were shorts, but one made its way home for a fresh red fish dinner. I thank you both for a great day and I look forward to our next charter. Here's Clell with a big catch, a 9lb sheepshead... Capt. Dan

You couldn't have ordered any better weather for us today and my good client Chuck had a great day. We shoved off from Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and made our way out. On the way to sheepshead grounds, we made a few cast on a bar and caught a couple trout to get the day started. We left the trout and made our way offshore to the 20ft range, anchored up and began bringing in sheepshead and some short lived grouper battles. Good quality sized sheepshead were coming on board and a grouper break offs here and there, but Chuck turned a beautiful gag on 10lb test for a quick photo. The bonito were around as well and we caught a couple to give the drags on the shimano 2500 saros a work out. A picture perfect day and plenty of action - I thank you for the great time... Capt. Dan

A couple days off the water with some family in town and I had a great Saturday, celebrating my nephews first birthday.... Back to work today though and wooooo, it was a chilly ride. Bill was my solo guest and what a great 1/2 day charter he had. Bill lives local and fishes the back waters of Ozello on his own.  He doe's great on trout and red fish, but he wanted to target something different today. He asked about sheepshead, seas bass and pompano and believe it or not, he caught all three species. We fished a couple shallow rock piles and live shrimp on a knocker rig did the trick. A fun, but chilly day on the water and I look forward to seeing you again. Here's Bill with a fine Crystal River pompano... Capt. Dan

What a beautiful day and very comfortable conditions for today's team out of Crystal River. Bill and Karen were my guests for the day and they had a blast. The wind swapped out of the NE for us and allowed for much more favorable conditions for going offshore. Today, we agreed to leave the trout alone and target what ever else we could find. Red fish were our first order of business and from free lining shrimp around the oyster bars, to sight fishing them in the creeks, we caught quite a few. Two of them were mid slot fish, while the others were the typical winter "rat" reds. Next, we were offshore bound to anchor down on some sheepshead. Well... we eventually got in to them after about thirty grouper break offs. The gags were beating the sheepshead to the shrimp. (Yes, there's still no shortage of keeper gags inshore). The sheep's started coming over the gunnel and a fine catch of them ended our day. I thank you both for the fun time and look forward as always to our next trip... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Early Sheeps....

I took a gamble today and made a run quite a ways offshore to see if the sheepshead are making there way inshore. Well, I'll just say this and yes they are..... I saw quite a few yesterday on some shallow locations which gave me the incentive to head West. So, for today's charter, Will and Trent were my guest visiting from the panhandle and wanted some fillets to take home. I knew I could load up on grunts and if the sheepshead were there, it would be a great bonus. Both plans came together awesome and it was truly a fish after fish day - with some catch and release grouper as well. With plenty of fish for the guys to take home, we worked up a couple trout and macks to add to the mix and what a day. I thank you both for the outstanding charter and look forward to next time... Crystal River Jigging Trout...

A beautiful day out of Crystal River with Pat and Laura Lou on board and this husband and wife team did great catching some trout. I picked them up at their home on the river and headed West. We jigged some of the outer islands and though the bite wasn't fast and furious, the MirrOlure Lil' Johns and DOA soft plastics put a limit of 10 keeper trout in the box. Laura Lou had the big fish honors with a hefty trout over 20". A couple Spanish mackerel and a sheepshead were added to our day and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

The sun finally came out today and it was a beautiful day. Mark and Mark Jr. were along with me for the day and we stayed on the shallow rocks and had a fine mixed catch. Grouper was our first order of business and we jumped rock to rock casting plugs and catching an outstanding limit of quality gag grouper. With plenty of time to kill, we took it easy and worked some more shallow rock piles and caught an assortment of species. There wasn't fast and furious action, but enough to keep the rods bent from time to time. A great day on the Nature Coast and I thank you guys for the fun time... Capt. Dan
