Always a fun day with the Settin the Hook team and we had a ball. Ann, Venny and Ashley were my team and they were ready to get'em. Today was my first day back at the office since my vacation and it was nice to be on the big pond. I was very surprised how dirty Crystal Bay is right now and it's zero visibility. Anyway, we pushed on out and had a fun time. We caught grouper, snapper, cobia, snook and some fine red fish. Live pin fish were the baits of the day and I truly thank you all for the great time. Here's Venny with her first red fish and was it ever a beauty... Capt. Dan

Ed Battles Goliath...

What a day with Dr. Ed on board!!! Ed and I have been trying for years to target Goliath grouper, but the weather has always put us down. It was looking that way again this morning, but the storms eventually cleared and it was smooth sailing by mid morning. As we waited on the weather, I was catching live jacks for Goliath bait and Ed hooks into a 38" snook - "nice bonus". We eventually made our way to some nice bottom structures and WHAM, we hooked up. Ed went 2 for 5 on Goliath's, while bringing one boat side well over 300lbs. A very good accomplishment and congratulations on a great tug of war... Capt. Dan

Hot Snook & Red Fish...

Today I finished up a great week long trip with Jim and he had quite the week. From jumping and landing tarpon, casting artificials for red fish and snook, cobia on the fly and bottom bumping for grouper; it was fantastic. The weather hurt us a bit for the tarpon game later in the week, so we hit the back country and really did well. Yesterday and today, we fished the North side of "Chazz" and we boated 18 red fish and 11 snook mainly using DOA glow jerk baits. We kept it simple and I poled the shore lines while he shot gunned cast, the rocky structures. I truly enjoyed the week and I'll see you in Wyoming in a couple weeks... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mix...

Always a fun time with Bob and when he's on board, it's a great time. For today's trip, we did a little bit of everything. We began the day catching a snook back in the creeks in salt river, and then made our way offshore for some grouper. Well, the grouper bite was good; but they were all on the short side for us today. The cobia were around too, but all around the 30" mark, but fun all the same. To end the day, I checked a hole and found a couple tarpon and we battled a fine fish for about 30 minutes before she broke off. A great really good mix for the day and I thank you for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Variety...

We covered the whole spectrum from inshore to offshore with Jason and Mike on board for the day. I picked up the father and some team at Macrae's and we began back in the creeks hooking in to some nice snook, trout and red fish. I put the trolling motor down and we eased along targeting the points with DOA jerk baits. The guys caught a fine inshore slam, plus some for the morning hours. The tide dropped out, and we trekked offshore for more fun and more species. Cobia, grouper and grunts bent the rod for the afternoon and it was an fantastic day. Thank you both so much.... Capt. Crystal River Slam...

A fun catch and release day with Rick on board and we covered some ground. We began the day in Salt River and we caught a nice slam. Snook, trout and red fish were all caught in less than an hour and on glow colored DOA jerk baits. For the rest of the day, we did some running around looking for cobia and triple tail. We did hook into "briefly", a keeper sized cobia, but the hook pulled and the triple tail we saw; were all on the short side. A great time my friend and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Mother's Day Cobia...

One of those special day's and happy Mothers Day to all the mom's out there. I was fortunate to spend the day with mine and my wife, and we had a ball. We lucked into a pair of real hefty cobia with one being 41lbs and the other 38lbs. We sight fished them with DOA bait busters and they couldn't resist them. After the run offshore, I made our way in the north county creeks and we caught a couple beautiful snook to wrap up the day. A truly fantastic mothers day and you can always see the additional pictures on my Crystal River Fishing Facebook page... Capt. Dan

Incredible Inshore...

Definitely the best snook action I've ever had on a charter today with Ed and Lee on board and it was fantastic. We began the day back in the creeks and right away; we lucked into a couple fine snook on DOA glow jerk baits. It was great to hook up right out of the gate, but the tide was dumping out fast; and I wanted to get on the trout for the last of the out going tide. I mad a bit of a run North, and the guys jigged up a fine limit of ten trout while adding a fine keeper cobia to the mix. The afternoon finished up with a couple more snook and it truly was a phenomenal day. Thank you both for the fun time and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout & Snook...

A fun father and Son team on board and the McDaniel family did outstanding. Trout fishing was our main target for the morning hours and we did well covering a couple different areas. DOA jerk baits in the shallow water and jigging around some near shore rocks, worked very well. We put a a nice angler limit on ice and we then went in search of snook. We covered a bunch of ground in the creeks, and we eventually found a couple snook. I love the challenge of hunting for snook and great job today... Capt. Dan

It's been a while, but always a fun time with the Short family and we had a little variety. I made the trout run first thing this morning and we did very well on the incoming tide. Jigging MirrOlure Lil' Johns in the bourbon color was the flavor of the day for our limit of trout. Next up, we ran down several triple tail but all were just on the short side, but fun all the same. We added a pair of snook to the catch for the day, but we did work for them using DOA glow jerk baits. I thank you both for the great day and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan
