Homosassa Variety...

An action packed day for sure out of the Homosassa Fishing Club and I joined my good friend Capt. Mark Zorn fishing the Hansen party. I had Richard and Jerry on board for the day and the guys had the hod rods. We made our quick run offshore to about 8ft of water and the trout bite was on. We had out limit of fifteen trout by 11am and even released a few others. With red fishing really not being all that fantastic at the time and the tide running out; we opted to go rock jumping. We jigged an assortment of different rocks and had a nice variety. Sea bass, keeper sized gags, cobia, flounder etc... were keeping us busy for the afternoon. It was a perfect day and I can't thank you both enough. Here's both teams with our catches for the day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Going Deep...

Not to much different it today's report- other then the gulf slicked off and had a slow hour or so of fishing. I had the pleasure of having the Worthington family on board and we made our way offshore once again. A beautiful day working the spotty bottom grass patches and we had excellent mixed bag action. Bourbon colored Lil' Johns and motor oil colored DOAs did the trick. The trout are definitely keying in on shrimp and almost every trout we caught were spitting them up. I can't thank you all enough for such a great time and congratulations on such a fine catch... Capt. Dan

I send a big thank you to my great guide friends; Capt's. Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt, Jonathan Hamilton, Don Chancey and Clay Shidler for doing an outstanding job with this years Veterinary group. This years trip consisted of seven boats with 17 anglers and "wow", did we catch them. The boats totaled over 80 keeper trout with a couple nice red fish, Spanish mackerel and Capt. Z's team won big fish with a heavy weight snook. I was a little worried with the weather forecast, but we dodged a couple showers and made it through the day. Nicole did great planning the trip and all the guests had a excellent Crystal River fishing experience. Here's my crew with fine catch of trout and we even released several keepers to leave some for tomorrow... Capt. Dan

Picture perfect weather and it felt like spring again. It was back at Tarpon Key Lodge for fishing the Green party and myself, Capt. Zorn and Capt. Toney were the hosts for the days charter and afternoon shore lunch. Merritt and Jeff were on board with me today and since the gang is flying back to Atlanta tomorrow, today was just a catch and release day. There was a stiff NE breeze for the early morning hours and it was pretty "skinny" running the flats. We started the day using cork rigs off the keys and did well catching six keepers to get the day going. As the day warmed and wind calmed, we made a quick 2 mile run to about 6ft of water and made a long drift over some spotty bottom. Excellent trout action and a mixed catch of pompano, Spanish mackerel, blue fish, grouper and sea bass filled out the day nicely. We totaled 16 keeper trout "which all were safely released", before we ran back to the lodge and prepared a fantastic shore lunch. A great time today with you both and here's Merritt with a keeper trout that posed for a quick picture... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Macks...

A very fun 1/2 day charter with Gene and Linda and we did great on the Spanish mackerel. We left from Pete's Pier this morning just before 9am and made our run to the mackerel grounds. The tide was just turning to come in and the conditions couldn't have been more perfect. We set out our chum slick, free lined our live shrimp and the rest was history. Numerous mackerel made for a fun morning and a surprise visit by a couple very large sharks kept things interesting as well. I thank you both for the fun day and look forward to seeing you soon... Crystal River Inside & Out...

A beautiful day on the water with Joanne and Joe on board for their charter out of Crystal River. I assured them the trout action has been great and we made our run offshore. We began drifting some spotty bottom areas in 5ft of water and caught a nice mixed bag.  Trout, macks, pompano, lady fish, grouper, etc.... kept us busy and a combination of bourbon and watermelon colored MirrOlure Lil' Johns were the ticket. We left the variety show and made a run to check on a cobia spot, but no one was home today. To end our charter, we hit a couple points and found some red fish both above and below the slot to top off the day. I thank you both for the wonderful time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

All I can say is Congratulations!!!! I had the Reed family on board today form California and for their first time fishing in the gulf, they did great. Today's plan was to run offshore and chum in some macks. We arrived to an area with some scattered rock piles in 8ft of water, began chumming and found some hard fighting Spanish mackerel.  The mackerel bite was fast and we encountered the first sharks of the year as well. We made some great memories today and I thank you all for the great day. Here's Katelyn on her first fishing experience and her first fish. "Way to go".. Capt. Dan

Waiting on the Wind...

It was a kind of hurry up and wait situation for my crew and I today. I had the Sweeney family on board and we killed some time inshore while we waited for the winds to calm some, so we could run offshore. Today's charter began to a breezy NE wind and we caught some trout on the first couple of drifts, but mostly shorts with a handful of keepers for the first few hours. I was chomping at the bit to make a run to some hard bottom area's that have been very productive lately. Finally after 1pm, the conditions were favorable to run West and I said "here we go". Once at the location, it was some great trout action. Bourbon colored MirrOlure Lil' Johns were the hot color and trout after trout came aboard; with a few macks mixed it. The day finished strong and I thank you all for the great time. Here's my crew with an outstanding catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Ladies Team....

Spring has sprung folks! Yes, the Spanish mackerel have arrived in full force and they are here is big numbers. On today's Crystal River charter, I had the Lent family on board and these ladies did oustanding. We made our run offshore to about 8ft of water and jigged some hard bottom area's with bourbon and watermelon colored MirrOlure Lil' Johns. The spanish mackerel were in a frenzy and in between being cut off by the macks, we squeezed several nice trout in as well. Our condtions were beautiful and the gulf warmed to almost 70 degrees today. I can't thank you all enough for the great day and always look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

I believe I could have "almost", worn shorts on today's charter. It warmed up nicely and Doug, Virginia, Elizabeth and James had an absolutely beautiful day out of Crystal River. The trout action for us today's really heated up towards the end of the day, but was slow during the morning. We covered several area's, but had the best action in the mangrove creek mouths. We used the islands to block some of the SW wind and using DOA jerk baits and MirrOLiure Lil Johns, the gang caught some beautiful trout. It was a couple fish on at a time for a little while and time sure fly's by when you're having fun. I thank you all for the great day and congragulations on your fantastic catch... Capt. Dan
