Crystal River Afternoon Trout.

Good to be back on the water with Virgina and Doug for an afternoon Crystal River 1/2 day charter. I had the boat detailed the last few days and it's all buffed out, shiny and ready to go. On today's charter, we did a little fishing and also showed Doug and Virgina some of the back country areas Crystal River has to offer. The trout were holding on some shallow hard bottom flats inside the keys and DOA jerk baits put five nice keepers in the cooler. We did a tour of Ozello and Salt River with hopes of picking up a red fish along the way, but takers for us today. We did see a couple nice red fish, but they were awfully spooky and had no intentions on eating. I thank you both for a fun afternoon and enjoy the fresh trout tacos... Capt. Dan

Catching A Few...

A little breezy on the big pond today, but we caught a few to ensure a great day. Clell, Sam and Butch were my guest today out of Crystal River and the guys met me at 9am at Pete's Pier Marina. Targeting offshore sheepshead was going to be my original plan, but the winds would not allow us to do so. For a back up plan, it was going to be an inshore day trying to hide from the wind and tackle some trout. We covered a lot of ground from the North to the South and had the best action in the creeks mouths. DOA deadly combos and glow jerk baits were the baits of choice.  We had some good action, but most of the trout were just under the keeper size with a couple keepers sprinkled in. I thank you guys for great time and look forward to seeing you again.... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mixed Catch...

A beautiful day on the Gulf of Mexico with Chris and John on board. The guys weren't to serious about loading up the cooler with fish, so we made a long run south, did some scouting and checked out some early spring locations. Much like yesterday, the bite was quite slow for the the majority of the morning hours. We picked up an assortment of fish here and there and made a stop or two for sheepshead; but they were no where to be found.  Finally, when the late afternoon outgoing tide started running, the trout turned on. We had some awesome action for 30 minutes with a fish on almost every cast and the guys just kept enough for their family's. I really enjoyed the day with you both and enjoy tonight's fresh catch... Crystal River, Working Hard!!!!

Today we did not have fast and furious action by any means, but we did catch a few to make the day a success. Dave and Alex were my guest out of Crystal River and once again, we had a real low tide to contend with. We spent most of the day inshore targeting trout and we did catch a few here and there, but only a couple keepers to show for our efforts. We used a variety of baits and techniques, but the MirrOLure Lil' John's did their job on producing the trout. With the little bit of tide that did come in, we were able to add a red fish to the mix and lost another with quite an explosive strike! A windy start to the day, but calmed down for a very pleasant afternoon. I thank you both for the fun time and here's Alex with her first red fish... Capt. Dan

A big change in the weather from the last few days and it was great to see the sunshine again. Ron and Sherry were my clients on board today out of Pete's Pier Marina on the Crystal River and we had a great day catching some trout and sheepshead. With calm seas and the gulf water temperature still in the low 60's, we had perfect conditions to catch some sheepshead. The sheepshead spawn is in full swing, so we targeted some ledges, sent down some live shrimp and had some fantastic action. We caught numerous sheepshead, put 13 in the cooler and released the others. The tide was turning around noon and I was anxious to put my crew on a couple big trout. Well, today was the day for big ones and we caught some hefty Crystal River trout in excess of 20". MirrOlure Lil' Johns were our bait of choice and the largest trout today was a true trophy at 26", which was released to fight another day. I thank you both for the great time and look forward to seeing you again soon. Here's Sherry with today's big trout... Capt. Dan

Windy Sunday Trout...

A fun 1/2 day trip with my good friends Cassie and Erin out of Crystal River. We did a little bit of fishing and touring the river today and wow, was it windy. Leaving from Pete's Pier marina just after 8am, we made a quick dash to gulf to catch a fish or two before the wind kicked up even worse. The trout bite was slow to be expected in the white cap conditions, but we caught a few before we ran back in to the river.  I did a tour of the bay, found some manatees, showed them the springs and the ladies had a great time. Here's Cassie and Erin with a beautiful Crystal River trout and always look forward to seeing you again... Capt. Dan

A "low" tide to start off the day out of Crystal River but when the wind calmed and the tide turned, the trout turned on. I had Lee and Clell on board for the day and once again, trout was going to be our target species. We fished a couple different areas from oyster bars, rock piles and spoil islands. All the locations produced fish, but waiting for the incoming tide was the key.  We used an assortment of DOA jerk baits and MirrOlure Lil John's for today's success. The guys had a great day and I always enjoy our time on the water. Here's Clell and Lee with their catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout!!!

Not the most beautiful day today out of Crystal River, but the trout sure were on fire. Karen and Bill joined me out of Pete's Pier marina and with the breezy conditions, I knew targeting sheepshead wasn't going to be an option. So, we stayed inshore, tied on some DOA jerk baits and caught some outstanding Crystal River trout. The quality of today's fish were incredible and the majority of the trout were averaging 18" to 20". Bill had the honors of catching a 24" gator and we released several others over the 20" mark. We tried our luck to find a red fish, but no takers for us today. The wind really kicked up just after noon, so we called it a day. I thank you both for an outstanding day and this was definitely one to remember. "Great job"... Capt. Dan

A fine mixed bag today out of Crystal River and Jeremy and Bonnie had a wonderful time. Today's charter began leaving from Pete's Pier Marina and starting the day jerk baiting some trout. The trout bite was good considering the 60 degree gulf water temperature and with the tide coming in; the conditions were perfect. With a nice catch of trout, stop number two was to add some sheepshead to the mix. On the way offshore, we saw several school of bonito and we were lucky enough to hook into one for a great hard fighting battle. We took a couple pictures and finished up our day landing some beautiful Crystal River sheepshead, grouper and grunts. I thank you both for a fun time and congratulations on your catch... Capt. Dan

Well, today's header pretty much sums up the weather conditions for the day. Ice on the boat in the morning, a cold 15mph NE wind and a much warmer afternoon. Phil was my guest today from Pennsylvania and after having to cancel the last two days from this last cold front, it's always great to be back on the water. The morning for us was quite slow and did I mention "cold" - and really, the fishing didn't get going until after noon. The conditions were improving through out the afternoon and allowed us to made a run offshore. The sheepshead action was very good and we caught some beautiful sheepshead and other mixed species. To finish up the afternoon, we targeted some shallow oyster bars and caught some hefty trout on DOA glow colored jerk baits. I thank you Phil for the great time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
