It was a one here, one there, kind of day out of Crystal River and Pat and Laura Lou worked hard and finished strong. I picked the couple up today at their home on the Crystal River and with the tides as they were, it was going to be a trout day. A long outgoing tide was our conditions for the charter and the trout bite was very sporadic. Working the kelp grass beds, oyster bars, pot holes etc... all produced fish, but I coiuldn't get a pattern to form to stay on a consistent bite. The tide really dropped out and for the end of our charter, we had some good success on some deeper spotty bottom in 5ft to 7ft of water. It's going to be a little tough for the next couple of days being what the tides are, but later in the week should pick back up. I thank you both for a fun day and congratulations on a fine catch... Crystal River Family Fun...

A mixed bag day for our Crystal River 1/2 day charter and I had the pleasure of having the Hamrick family on board. We met at Pete's Pier this morning to cloudy, chilly conditions and began the morning targeting trout in the shallow kelp beds in Salt River. The trout action was pretty good, but we had to catch them quick, due to the rapid out going tide and avoid getting "stuck"!  We put a couple keepers in the cooler and released several others before we returned to the river. The skies finally cleared, the sun was shining and some more fish were brought aboard. Mangrove snapper, red fish and black drum filled out the rest our charter and I thank you all for the great day. Here's Tommy with a Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

There's never really a bad day of fishing, but when you hit the bite as good as it was today; it's truly a phenomenal day. I had the pleasure of having the Keeler family on board and we bundled up and hit the flats. When we reached the mouth of the river, we were welcomed to another extreme low tide and it was LOW... To play it safe, we took our time reaching the the shallow kelp beds and made some drifts. It was a little slow for a while with a fish here and there with the forever outgoing tide, but when it turned; it was fish on. We made two drifts over the spotty bottom with the kelp grass and it was some fantastic action. It was cold with the overcast skies and NE wind, but it was definitely worth it. I thank you all for such a great day and congratulations on a outstanding catch... Capt. Dan

With a foggy, cold front coming through the area, the chill just cut through to your inner core today out of Crystal River. Tom and Doc were on board for a 1/2 day charter and experienced the shifting weather with tough conditions. We targeted the kelp grass beds and oyster bars catching some very nice trout. We used a combination of jerk baits and MirrOlure Lil' Johns for the trip, but the jerk baits definitely caught the larger trout. It was a fun couple days fishing with you Tom, and I enjoyed fishing with your son. Here's the father and son team with their catch... Capt. Dan

An overcast breezy cool front was with us today and Steve and Tom caught some beautiful trout. It was a little choppy just outside the mouth of the Crystal River, so we stayed close to shore. We targeted the kelp grass beds and oyster bars with DOA deadly combo cork rigs and caught some hefty trout. Only a few under slot trout were caught for our 1/2 day charter and most were between 17" and 20". I can't thank you guys enough for the fun morning and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Crystal River Hot Trout....

It makes my job so much more enjoyable, when the weather is as nice as it has been. Clell and Lee joined me today out of Crystal River and once again, perfect tides, calm seas and hungry trout made for an absolute wonderful day. We targeted the outer bars and the MirrOlure Lil' Johns did their job. New penny, watermelon, and purple were today's flavors and all worked equally well. The tide was up enough for some early afternoon red fishing and we caught a few to end the day. I always enjoy our trips with you guys and great job today... Capt. Dan

Wow!  Great weather, perfect tides and hungry trout... its been a great couple of days. I had a wonderful full day Crystal River charter with Kit, Dave and Matt on board and we hit the hot trout bite. Once again, we were loaded with MirrOlure Lil' john's, worked the outer bars and it was some truly fantastic action. The guys caught their limit and some beautiful Crystal River trout were brought in. We had a few mixed species as well, including some mackerel, red fish and black drum. A great day on the water and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

The gulf warmed to 66 degrees today and the slightly warmer temperature, turned the fish on. I had the pleasure of having the DeSart family on board and these gentlemen had it as good as it gets. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina, we made our run to some shallow bars and jigged up some trout. We used an assortment of MirrOlure Lil' John jigs ranging from glow, watermelon, root beer and chartreuse and all the above colors worked equally well. A mixed catch of mackerel, sea bass, pompano, red fish etc... filled out the day and I can't thank you all enough for the fun time. I look forward to fishing with you all again and congratulations on an outstanding catch... Capt. Dan

Day three today at the Homosassa Fishing Club with the Spalding party and it was another great day on the water. I had Darren, Robbie and Ed on board and we had a slow start for the first part of the day. Lady fish, short trout and red fish was all we could luck into before our shore lunch, but we finished strong. After a great shore lunch, we headed back out to the flats and all the guides had a great catch of trout. My boat had a pleasant surprise of catching a keeper sized grouper in really shallow water to top off the afternoon. Thanks to the entire grouper for a great couple of days and look forward to your next visit... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Plugging Trout....

I dug deep in the tackle box to find what the trout wanted today. It was another chilly day at the Homosassa Fishing Club with the Spalding party and myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney, Jody Johnson and Jim Long were the hosts. I had Dave and Chris on board for the day and it took us a little while for us to figure out the trout. Using cork rigs, assorted soft plastics and other odds and ends just wasn't getting it done. Finally, I tied on some MirroLure Mirrodine's and it was the ticket. We quickly put seven nice keeper trout in the cooler before our shore lunch and myself and Capt. Toney were tied as high boat with the most keepers. Lunch was great and we spent the last 30 minutes of the day trying to find another keeper or two, but only came up with some shorts. Capt. Toney found one more to add to his catch and he won honors today. I thank everyone for the great day and we'll see you tomorrow... Capt. Dan
