A Red October Day. Oct.11th 2011 Featured

PA110827The red fish bite was on out of Crystal River and Lucy, Don, Nina and Joe caught some of the biggest one's I've seen this year. Leaving from Pete's Pier marina this morning, we ran our the salt river and began the day targeting some trout. The trout bite was very good, but we were catching mostly shorts throughout most of the morning with a couple keepers mixed in. The MirrOlure Lil' John's and DOA shrimp were the baits keeping our rods bent. Just before noon, the tide was rushing in and we changed gears to find the red fish. Well. we did just that and it was as good as I've seen it. We caught our four keepers, released 7 over slot red fish and totaled 14 for the afternoon. A combination of free lined live shrimp and cut lizard fish were red fish candy today. The largest red fish made it over the 33" mark and we actually left them biting and called it a day. Thank you all for the outstanding trip and always look forward to our next charter. Here's Lucy with one of today's over slot reds... Capt. Dan
