Hot Gags...

The first day of Fall and the first real good keeper gag grouper bite. Ed was the man today as he joined me out of Crystal River and he turned some really fine grouper. We anchored up, pitched out some pin fish and in less than 5 minutes, we had a limit of grouper. Very few shorts today and in the coming weeks, it's only going to get better. *** On a side note, I'm off to the great state of Maine for a week of Brook trout and Salmon fishing. I'm really looking forward to the NE Fall time of year and I'll see you all back on the big pond Oct. 2nd... Capt. Dan

Reds & Gags...

We went deep today folks and with flat calms sea's, we went all the way to 40ft. Jason was on board today and I generally do not venture quite that far offshore, but with the conditions as they were; we went for it. Grouper were on our menus and the bite was good with mostly short gags keeping us busy, but we eventually locked into some nice keepers. While offshore, the bonito were busting bait and we caught a couple of them as they screamed our drags. To finish up our day, we hit the keys for 1/2 a dozen red fish and it sure was a fun day. I thank you Jason and always look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Team Fitzpatrick...

A terrific trip today with the Fitzpatrick husband and wife team, and they had a good one. We started the day with the first I've trolled for grouper this season and we caught a couple. Bright colored plugs out produced the naturals, but the floating grass is still an issue. We wrapped up the grouper and made our way inshore to a very good red fish bite. Free lined pin fish were the bait today and we had a double digit afternoon. I thank you both as always and I look forward to our next trip... Capt. Dan

Bill's Birthday!!!!

Happy birthday to a great friend and client, Bill Lent. Bill and his wife Nell were on board today and we celebrated his 90th birthday in style. Our first stop of the day produced some really nice red fish and live pin fish got the bite going for us. Nell did have the hot rod and she caught a couple beauty's. We left the reds and ran offshore a bit and had some decent action with grouper, grunts, flounder, mackerel and some small snapper. The North wind felt very comfortable and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Reds, Snook and Gags...

Back out for my second trip after the storm and we did just fine. Mishel and Earl were on board and the team had a really good day. Red fishing started our trip and on two stops, each of them caught some beautiful Crystal River red fish. While red fishing, we also picked up three snook as a fun bonus. Next up, we ran offshore and turned a couple keeper gags, The grouper bite was OK, with a couple big one's getting the best of us as well. Always a fun time with you both and I'll see you soon... After IRMA...

Hello everyone, I hope you all fared well during the storm and we all sure were blessed in our area; as it could have been a lot worse. I personally was fine, but six days with out power was the worst of it for my family. I've been on the water twice since the storms passing and fishing is excellent. The gulf water temperature dropped a bit and the redfish and snook bite is very good. We've caught them on both aftificals, cut bait and live pin fish. The water is still churned up, but will be clearing in the coming days. I was able to go out with my "new" neighbor and put him on a snook of a lifetime. Here's Dennis with trophy for our waters, in the mid 40" range... Capt. Dan

Reds before the Storm..

This was the last trip I'll get in until Hurricane Irma passes. I hope and pray everyone stays safe in the next couple days, and damage will be minimum as possible. For today though, the Coleman team was with me and we caught some trout and some fine afternoon red fish. The trout bite was OK with lots of small fish using cork rigs and it's a good sign fall is coming. The hot bite though was the afternoon red fish action and on the incoming tide, the action was great. I used cut lizard fish "the Homosassa secret weapon" and soon as the baits hit the water; the rods were bent. A great day to finish up in preparation of the storm and everyone please be safe... Capt. Whopper Reds...

What a day to be red fishing and the Platz team had a good one. Our day began trying to find some gags and we did, but they were all short on one end and unfortunately no keepers. Next though, I suggested giving red fish a try and it was a good call. We pulled up to a couple points and the bite was on. A couple cover-slot reds started the red fish bite, plus some fine mid slot fish too. Live pin fish were the baits of the day for the reds and I look forward to seeing you next year... Capt. Dan

Saturday Reds...

It's the yearly Labor Day weekend trip with the Platz team in town and for today we did a 1/2 day red fishing trip, to beat the rain. I picked up the gang at their house on the river and we hit the points. The red fish action was good as the tide came in and we picked up a couple on each stop. The size of the fish ranged from over slot, to keepers to under slot and free lined live shrimp did the trick. A great time and I'll see you soon... Capt. Dan

Reds, Snook and Gags..

Day two with Pete and Jezze on board and we did a bit more fishing, then jumping in the water. Our day began trying to get a snook for opening day and we caught a few under slots, and yours truly actually lost two keeper slot fish; as they jumped up and shook the hook. We left the snook grounds as the bite slowed and ran to where I've been doing so well on red fish, and in no time the guys had a fine catch of red fish. To wrap up the day, we jumped in the water and shot a nice gag grouper on a little ledge, some mangrove snapper and mackerel to end the day. A fun two days and I thank you both for the fun time...
