Down Time...

Hello everyone, well I have some news that's not the best; but we're going to get trough it. My results from the mass I had removed a couple weeks ago unfortunately came back cancerous. Starting this week, I'll be beginning chemotherapy treatments for 9 weeks and I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about getting trips in during this time. I'm hoping for the good results and I'll keep everyone updated on my progress, any charters I'll be able to get in and some general fishing reports on what's going on - to keep you all up to date the best I can on the fishing action. I thank you all so much for your support and I'll be back at it soon... Capt. Dan

The Novinger team was with me today and we had a fun time in the breezy conditions. Ed, Chad and Ted were the team and the guys caught some nice trout and a couple real beauty red fish. Live baits were the ticket, with pin fish being preferred for the red fish. I thank you all and I always look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Cobia & Tripletail...

Another good day to be out of Crystal River with Joe and Joanne. The husband and wife team joined me and caught a beauty of a cobia and triple tail for the day. Cobia was our main target and we went 1 for 3 on hook ups, which is about right as they can sure be tough to keep buttoned up. Joe actually brought in a keeper sized gag grouper as the last cobia followed up, and I quickly changed gears as we hooked that fish. Live pinfish was our bait of the day and I thank you both as always for the good time... Capt. Dan

On the Water...

So good to be back on the water after my ankle surgery. Unfortunately though, I have some bad news which I'll talk about in a couple days which I'll be going through, but we'll talk about that later. Today with Jim, Dean and Larry we hit the flats and had a bit of a slow day, however we caught a couple. The wind was up out of the NW, so it limited me on where I could go. The fellas and I caught a couple trout and red fish, but the bite was off and all of us that were on the water experienced the same. Jim had big fish honors with a beauty over slot Ozello red fish and I thank you guys for the fun time... Capt. Dan

A New Cover and Update...

Hello everyone, well I'm healing right along and should be back on the water next week. I'll definitely know for sure later today, after my doctors visit. I also found out this week, that I made the cover of the 2018 issue of Carolina Sportsman. I did a photo shoot with David Brown a couple years ago and you never know where his photographs will show up, as he writes for many magazines. I hope to see you all soon... Capt. Dan

Getting Better!!!

First of all, I want to thank all of you that have sent messages, called and followed up on my recent surgery and wished me a speedy recovery. Well, I am making progress and if all goes well, my stitches will come out this Friday and I'll be back to work Saturday. It's been a painful recovery the first couple of days, but I'm up and walking now and at lest allowed to drive, "I was getting cabin fever"! I thank you all again and I'll hopefully see you on the big pond in a week.... Capt. Dan

I've had to take some time off recently in preparation for an upcoming surgery I'm having done on Tuesday. I'll be off the water for at least a week and I hoping everything goes smoothly. I'll try to keep you all updated on my progress. I was able to have "my last fun day" for a while yesterday with my long time friend Wes, as we caught some nice bass in the farm ponds. Good fishing out there everyone and hope to be on the water soon... Capt. Dan

Good Time in Crystal River...

Another nice mix with the Barlow team and Ron, Dean and Ron Jr. did outstanding. We spent the majority of the day drifting some spotty bottom in 8ft of water using MirrOlure Lil Johns jigs. Well, the action was superb and for over three hours we had something pulling on our lines. This included the first cobia of the year, but it was on the small side. We ran back inshore as the tide turned and finished off our trip with a beauty of an upper slot snook and I thank you all for the great time... Capt. Dan

Last of the Sheep's....

As I wrap up the sheepshead season today with the Worthington family, it sure was another good one. April brings warmer gulf water temperatures and it slows the sheepshead action down and I like to leave the rest of the fish to finish spawning and I'll see them next winter. I'm looking forward to more trout, cobia, triple tail, snook, and mackerel action - plus hopefully some early arrival tarpon in the coming weeks. Today though, we did do well with lots and I mean lots of little grouper, plus some nice sheepshead; but I had to really work for them. The rods did stay bent and I thank you all for the fun day... Good Haul...

Bill, Phil and Frank sure got it done today and we had a great catch. The day started right off with Frank making a perfect cast to a 12lb triple tail and that warmed us up. The sheepshead bite was next as we did OK; but it's just about over and I believe tomorrow will be the last day I try for them. I jumped around a bunch to get the sheepshead and the team finished off the day with a fine catch of trout to wrap it up. Great job fellas and I thank you... Capt. Dan
