Frozen Sheep's...

Today was just about as cold as it gets and where the fish will still bite. Dan, Lauren and Joe were the team and with the gulf at 52 degree's, it was "iffy" if we were going to get some sheepshead to bite. I made a run to some ledges and sure enough, we caught some fish right away. The bites we had were really small male sheepshead, but it was encouraging. The team ended up with six keepers and released some little guys for the day, before the approaching cold front chased us in. I thank you all as always and here's Mr. Dan with an Ice cold sheeepshead... Capt. Dan

COLD Trout....

It was a cold one out there today folks and my solo client Larry was ready to go for it. We reached the gulf and was greeted to 52 degree water temperature. That's really cold for us and it was to bumpy to sheepshead fish, so we started at the mouth of the river and moved back east. I tied on some MirrOlure Lil' John jigs and we basically jigged the channel edge and did quite well. Nine keeper trout came on board, as well as a small snook and red fish to complete a slam. I thank you Larry and here's the first one of the day... Capt. Dan

Freshwater Side of the County...

Not to much to report in the saltwater world lately as the weather hasn't been to great to make it out, other than river fishing. However, my good friend and neighbor Dennis is a bass fishing guru and he and I set out today to fish the East side of the county lakes. The wind was howling, but we made it happen. He and I caught 1/2 a dozen quality bass with the largest being 7.12lbs. We targeted lily pad points and it sure was a fun time. I thank you buddy and here's the big one of the day... Capt. Dan

56 Degree Sheep's...

A pretty cold winter we've experienced so far and today was probably the coldest day yet. Ian, Michelle and Jeff were on board for the cold ride and with the gulf at 56 degrees, sheepshead were our plan. The bite was actually OK on a couple drops on the incoming tide, but when it turned to go out; it was over. Live shrimp on knocker rigs were our tackle of the day and a bonus tripletail, we picked up on the way in. I thank you all and great job... Capt. Dan

Trout in the Kelp...

You find the Kelp grass, you find the trout. That's and old trout saying around here, but it sure is true. On today's Crystal River inshore trip, the Coleman team did great jerk baiting the trout. We used a combination of Glow DOA jerk baits and the New MirrOdine cracked glass gold I helped design for Sodium fishing gear here in Crystal River. A great 1/2 day trip and I thank you as always.... Windy Trout...

A beautiful, windy day with the Keeler team and they caught some fine Crystal River trout. Chris, Rex and Mary were with me for the day and they were loaded with DOA glow jerk baits. The tide was extremely low and the pattern for the day was drifting shallow humps with kelp grass for the trout. Each little section we drifted produced some really nice fish and a beautiful limit was achieved. I thank you all and we'll see you next time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout...

An approaching front, south wind, incoming tide and DOA jerk baits = a perfect set up for happy trout. The team of Dan, Lauren and Joe were on board and the conditions were so perfect for targeting some trout. The gulf had reached about 70 degrees and the trout were almost in a spring type of mood. We made several drifts over some kelp grass and in just a couple hours, we reached a fine limit of trout. The approaching cold front was to hit our area around 2pm and we finished up the day in plenty of time. I thank you all and great job... Capt. Dan

Year Opener...

A great start to the new year with Jim, Larry and Dean and the guys had a good one. The grouper rods are put to bed until the season opens again, so for now it's mostly going to be a trout, sheepshead and a red fish world. I do enjoy this time of year as long as the cold fronts aren't to harsh. The sheepshead bite is still a bit early and usually in to February, it really gets going. The team today did very well jigging up the trout and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Happy New Year everyone!!! 2018 is behind us and it was a very trying year for me as many of you know. I thank you all once again for all that contributed, helped and donated for my June fundraiser - and all the prayers. I'm looking forward to a healthy 2019 and catching lots of fish with you all on board. Also, Grouper season closed today and I want to thank all of you for a tremendous season. I totaled 434 keeper grouper to the dock and big fish of the season was 24lbs. We'll be checking back on them when the season opens after June 1st.
