Out West Wrap Up....

A great time in the Rocky Mountains with Becky and some great friends. We caught some really nice trout and saw some new beautiful country. We've been going out there now for 12 years and this trip, we even did some more exploring. Some of the new streams paid off great and some not so much, but they will definitely produce in the future when they have a normal water level year. As I mentioned before, this year was a below average snow pack and extremely warm summer which made it a bit tough fishing the smaller streams. One highlight from the trip was, I was able to Marry my good friends Jc and Kayla in Teton National Park for their wedding. I've recently became an ordained minister and it was an honor to marry them in such a beautiful place. It's always hard to leave, but we have next year and I'll be looking forward to it again.... Wyoming & Idaho...

Hello everyone, just wanted to check in and give a quick out West report. The trip so far has been excellent in both Wyoming and Idaho. We've caught cutthroat's, brown trout, rainbows and saw but didn't hook up chinook salmon and bull trout. We're using mostly dry flies and a few streamers. It is a hot one out here and the water on the Idaho side is quite a bit lower than the Wyoming mountain range streams. That's the only down side is some of my favorite Idaho streams are really not worth fishing as the low hot water puts to much stress on the fish. We still have a bit more than a week to go and I'll check back in when I can.. Capt. Dan

Tarpon Ready....

Just a couple weeks away and it will be tarpon season. With this lousy weather, fishing has been tough and I've had to cancel some trips. However, I'm making the best of it and filling the fly box and getting tarpon ready. There have been a few fish around early, but with the winds we've been having, I haven't been able to see if they're still there. The fly rods are getting rigged, the skiff has new batteries _ I'm ready.... Stay tuned and I'll see you on the water soon as this weather clears... Capt. Dan

Back from Maine!

Hello everyone, I'm back from a terrific trip from the North country of Maine. Myself and my buddy Jim had an awesome time with the Landlocked Salmon and Brook trout. We totaled over 130 salmon for the week reaching 7 lbs and some beautiful fall colored Brook Trout over 18". The weather was perfect with lows in the 40's and high's in the low 60's. We caught them on a variety of streamers and dry fly's. We're already planning next years trip and I can't wait.... Capt. Dan

Wyoming Wrap Up...

As I write this follow up about our trip, I'll be back in Florida tomorrow. This year was absolutely perfect and the average trout this year was mush larger than years past. After missing last year due to my medical issues, it was so great to be out here. We hiked to some upper meadow streams and I believe one day we did close to eight miles round trip. All but three fish were caught on dry flies "my buddy Bill Lent would be proud as I caught three on a nymph" and on our last day yesterday I fished exclusively a mouse pattern and caught over a dozen between cutthroats and browns on it. It was an awesome sight to see those trout hit a top water mouse twitching on the surface. My dear friends Jim, Dana, Matt, Gail and my wife Becky made it so special. I'll always be looking forward to next year and I'll see you on the big pond in Crystal River next week... Capt. Dan

Wyoming Week 3....

I just can't get enough of the West, and the fishing continues to be extremely good for us. We have ventured over to the Idaho side a little bit and we found a stream with some hefty cutthroats and a few Browns. Targeting the shady shorelines from the Willow trees has been the go to tactic lately; as it has been quite warm. An assortment of dry flies have worked well, but you guessed it - the madam X is still our number one producer. We have just a week to go before I'm back home and I'll check back in soon. Here's Becky with another nice brown trout... Capt. Dan

Wyoming Week Two....

Another really great week out West and it truly couldn't be any better. The weather has been terrific and were exploring new streams everyday. The small hoppers are beginning to start and this has the trout looking up. An assortment of dry flies have been producing for us, with the Madam X being our go to fly. I had my good friend JC come out here for a couple days and he absolutely loved it. From moose, deer, badgers, beavers, eagles, etc... the wildlife is outstanding. I'll check back soon and good fishing.... Capt. Dan

Wyoming First Week...

A fantastic first week to our Wyoming trip and the fishing has been excellent. We hit it just right as the streams are clearing from the runoff and even though some are running a bit high, they are fishing well. " There's still a bit of snow in the upper elevations". All the trout have been caught on dry flies and the purple madam x has been our best producer. We've been catching some more brown trout this trip and they sure are fun. Our largest cutthroat has been 22" and it's 48 degrees as I right this right update Monday evening. A great first week and here's my wife Becky with her first Brown trout of the trip... Capt. Dan

Fun size Tarpon...

Well Jim and I decided to give the little tarpon a try again today and we did well, plus some real nice snook in Crystal River. We were able to get out of the continuing West wind were having and make a day out of it. The tarpon took a clouser minnow and the snook, on the ever reliable DOA glow jerk bait. A fun time and here's my first little tarpon on the fly... Capt. Dan

Small Tarpon...

A little something different today and something I've been wanting to do for a while. Jim and I went exploring back in the canals and creeks in our area and found some little tarpon I've known about for a while. We scaled back the fly rods to an 8wt and little clouser minnow flies for these guys. We had a really fun time as we jumped a couple and brought one on board for a quick photo opportunity. Mission accomplished and thank you buddy for the fun day.... Capt. Dan
