Crystal River Inside & Out....

A great day with some great friends! Johnny, Robyn and Vickie joined me out of Pete's Pier Marina for a day of what ever we can catch kind of day, and we had a little variety. We left the marina at 8am and with plenty of tide and we hit the points to find a red fish or two. I put the team on a couple keepers on the lower slot end and had several larger fish all around, but just wouldn't eat. Our next stop was the shallow rocks to pull on a grouper or two and are they ever there. We cast a few plugs and caught some real nice keeper sized gags, a cobia and never left 7ft of water. The floating grass was a bit of a pain, but a clean drag resulted in a grouper. The trout bite for the afternoon was just about non existent for us and only a couple shorts filled out the last of our trip. A fun time and it's always a blast to check on the extremely strong gag grouper population. Here's a fine gag we caught and released to see again come July 1st... Capt. Dan

It isn't very often I wish for wind, but we sure could have used a little today. Richard, Tommy and Adam were on board with me today out of Crystal River and we made our way back offshore. "NOT" a ripple on the big pond made it a bit tough to cover some water, but we moved around little by little and did well. Several trout, sea bass, grouper, flounder, sharks and lady fish filled out out drifts and we had plenty of action. Once again the root beer Lil' Johns did their job on 1/8th oz jig heads. We released another fine gag grouper and had a hefty cobia interested on a jerk bait, but wouldn't commit. I thank you all for the fun time and look forward to seeing you in the future... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Offshore Trout...

Happy Cinco de Mayo, and what a great day it was. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club with my great friend Capt. Mark Zorn and we had the pleasure of fishing the Craft party. Calm seas and a light breeze made for ideal conditions drifting offshore to find some trout. We teamed up and drifted the spotty bottom areas West of Homosassa in the 8ft range and had some great action. Both boats had a fine limit of trout, several sea bass and even caught and released some keeper sized gags. Root beer MirrOlure Lil' Johns were the baits today and I can't thank you all enough for the great time. Here's the gang with today's catch... Capt. Dan

A special treat for me today and I had my first charter with some over seas clients on board. I met the group at the Plantation on Crystal River and we made our way to the flats. (The guys introduced their names, but please excuse me, I can't remember)..... Well, I kept it simple for fishing, anchored up on a couple rock piles and chummed in some macks. The tide was pretty weak going out, but we had a nice variety of mackerel, grouper, sea bass, lady fish and sharks. The gang enjoyed every minute and I made some great memories for them. I thank you all for the wonderful time and I hope to fish with you in the years to come... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Steady Action...

A pretty incredible day offshore Crystal River and Sharon, Bill and Pam got to experience it. I picked up the gang at Pete's Pier Marina a little after 8am and headed West. The forecast was calling for very favorable conditions, but the winds picked up a bit and it was choppy with a good swell mixed in. We toughed out the ride, anchored on one break and it was ON! Evey drop produced a sheepshead, grunt or grouper and I was a busy boy. The team had to bring a bunch of fish in to feed the big family in town and I think they did just that. With a box full, we called it a day and even picked up a bonus triple tail on a buoy to top off the trip. I thank you all for the excellent day and congratulations on an outstanding catch... Capt. Crystal River at its Best....

What a day!!! An excellent group trip today with some of my best friends Capt's. Mark Zorn and Rick Spratt and we fished the Killebrew party. My team was Brad, Bob and Tim and we ran offshore for the day. Excellent sheepshead action, with the big fish of the year being caught weighing over 10lbs. The grouper were active as we landed several for catch and release photos and some bonus species. Brad caught a huge black drum and Bob landed a very cool trigger fish. The other boats did fantastic on trout, macks and a pompano. A really fun day and I thank you all for the great time. Here's the end of the day total, and the group is going to have one heck of a fish fry... Capt. Dan

You Have to Love March....

March is the turn around month for us here on the Nature Coast and as winter rolls behind us, a whole new bunch of species come in to play. Pat and Michael were my guests today and with weak mid day tides, offshore was the plan again. Sheepshead, grunts, grouper and a couple bonus triple tail were the species for us. The sheepshead bite was excellent once again and we encountered some real large fish in excess of 5lbs while releasing over a dozen of that size. A couple drops on various rocks filled out our day; until we ran the crab trap buoys and encountered a few triple tail. It's that time of year again and they are always a welcomed bonus catch for the day. I thank you both for an excellent trip and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore...

Calm conditions on the big pond today and Jeff, Steve and David had a beautiful day. This was a sheepshead trip and with the recent cold front, they were on fire. We dropped down on a couple rock piles and did great. The gag grouper were active as well and even though we did land a couple keeper sized fish on 10lb test, several more broke us off. Live shrimp on a knocker rig was the bait of choice and in a couple more days, I'll be leaving the sheepshead alone until next year. Thank you all for the great day and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Grouper Gone Wild........

A grouper inventory check today and was it ever impressive. A beautiful day with Mishel and Jason on board and with it just being a catch and release trip; I thought we would check up on the gags. The gulf is at that magic 62 degree mark and grouper love it at the temperature. I've noticed a big jump in grouper activity on the last few sheepshead charters and I was so anxious to drag a plug behind the boat. Well, it was unbelievable in the 15ft to 22ft range and fish on every pass. Over twenty gags we released, and all but a couple were keepers. We took some fantastic pictures and please check them out on my Crystal River Fishing Facebook page. I thank you both for a memorable day and here's our two for one. We caught two keepers on one plug, which was pretty neat to see... Capt. Dan

Foggy Sunday....

The return of the sea fog...... Yes folks, it was back and thick as ever offshore. Billie and John were my guests today from the East side of the state and what a great catch they had. We loaded up from Pete's Pier Marina and began the day on a shallow rock bar, DOA jerk baiting some trout. The trout bite was pretty good, but while we were on the trout; the fog came rolling in. I knew it was going to be a slow ride offshore, so I zoomed in my tracks and we headed West. We eventually reached one of my favorite ledges and the sheepshead were on. Billie and John did great and what a outstanding catch of trout, sheepshead and even released a find gag grouper. I thank you both for a fun day and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan
