I have it custom rigged with dual 109 lb thrust 36 volt trolling motors, elevated casting platform and powered by the finest - a 115 Pro XS Mercury Optimax.
When the weathers allows me to get offshore in October, the fishing is usually as good as it gets. This is exactly what Merrill, Lou and Dan experienced this fine day off Crystal River. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina and we were ready to troll up some gags. We targeted ledges, rocks and wrecks and all these areas had some very nice keeper sized grouper on them; plus we lost a couple too. Fire tiger, orange and blue mackerel colored Rapala and Yo-Zuri plugs were the top producers today and there was very little floating grass to deal with. Leaving the grouper, we anchored up on a rock pile and caught a multitude of species. The action was non stop and the big and "pleasant" surprise, was hooking into five beautiful pompano to add to our catch. What a perfect day and congratulations on your outstanding catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Big Haul...

I think we had almost everything we could offer today except red fish; but I'm confident we would have had a few, if the tide was in our favor. Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt and Jody Johnson were at the Homosassa Fishing Club and we had the Turman party on board for the next couple of days. Randy, George and Jimmy were on board with me for the day and the morning trout bite was great. We drifted the shallow hard bottom areas with kelp grass and had nine beautiful Homosassa trout to start our morning. The tide was slowing up, so my crew and I ran to the shallow rock piles and caught a mixed variety. Grouper, sea bass, grunts and mangrove snapper kept us busy throughout the afternoon and it was just a fun day to be on the water. I thank the entire group for an outstanding day and here's our end of the day shot... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Groupas!!!!

If you're a local grouper angler, now's the time to drag a plug over your favorite grouper structures and hold on! I had my good friend and client Ted on board for the day and we caught some beautiful gag grouper. We targeted some North numbers towards Cedar Key and the grouper were there. We used a combination of bunker and fire tiger colored Rapala x-raps for our success today. The floating grass was a bit of an issue, but when we had a clean drag once again; it produced a hefty gag. I thank you Ted for the great day and here's one of today's heavy weights... Capt. Dan

What a Day!!!!!!

I've been very blessed as a fishing guide to have some great days on the water and once in a while you have one of those days that make you say - "WOW" what a day. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today with Captains Mark Zorn, Jim Long and William Toney and I had the pleasure of having Yancey, Mark and Keith on board for the day. With the inshore trout bite a little slow on low water, I said hold on guys, we're going offshore to troll up some grouper. It was rough with the 3ft swells, but the bite was well worth it. We trolled in the 25ft range and had a easy limit of gags. The only problem was, the slow 10mph ride in from 16 miles which was a bumpy ride. Once inshore, we made a couple drifts for trout off the "Keys", and picked up some keepers to add to the mix. For the final touch of the day, we free lined some shrimp on the rocky points and put a couple beautiful Homosassa red fish to end the day. All I can say is thank you guys and congratulations on a fine day of fishing... Capt. Dan

A little choppy today offshore, but Jim and Terry were ready to give some Crystal River grouper trolling a try. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina this morning and made our way offshore to about the 28ft range. We sent down the plugs over some hard bottom ledges and found some nice grouper. The hot color plugs for the day were the bunker and chartreuse and silver Rapala x-rap 20's. We caught our four gags pretty quick and stopped on a rock pile pile to catch a little variety of species. Mangrove snapper, mackerel and grunts were keeping us busy and a live shrimp on a 1/8thoz Hank Brown jig head was the bait of choice. I thank you both for the great day and enjoy all the fish... A great half day charter with Rod and Mike on board and today's special was trout and grouper. I picked up the guys from Rods beautiful home on the Crystal River, ran out the Salt River and were into the trout. We worked some of the outer bars with the MirrOlure Lil' John cork rigs and had great trout action. It was trout after trout with most of them being under slot, but we had a couple keepers to keep us busy. For a change of pace, we targeted some of the shallow rock piles and casted up some grouper. We had a hefty pair of gags with both of the over 10lbs to end our day. I thank you both for the fun time and look forward to seeing you soon... Capt. Dan

Rain and wind was the forecast the last two days and unfortunately, I had to cancel some charters. However, today was a different day and slick calm seas made for an easy ride offshore. John and Kaitlynn were on board for the day and with the cooling water temperatures, it was time to give trolling up some grouper a try. We reached our destination just over 20ft of water, sent down some plugs and it was fish on. We totaled nine beautiful gags to 14lbs and used a combination of fire tiger, bunker and chartreuse and silver rapala x-raps for today's trip. The floating grass is still a little bit of a headache to get a clean drag, but it's worth the aggravation. Congratulations to you both for an outstanding day and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore...

A great run today offshore with Tony, Donna and Chris on board for some grouper action. We left from Pete's Pier Marina at 8am and our first stop was loading up on a live well full of pin fish. The pin fish trap was full today, so there wasn't any extra time needed to hook and line some more. We were offshore bound with pleasant seas and reaching the 30ft depth range, we caught some nice gag grouper. The full moon that's upon us usually isn't the best time to target grouper, but big live baits will usually get them to cooperate. An awesome end of the day bonus was trolling up a 70lb Goliath grouper on 30lb line to give Tony and Donna a great tug of war. I thank you all for the fun day and here's today's crew with their catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Variety....

From the inshore species to the shallow rock piile residents, Donna, Tony and Merrick caught them all. What a fun day out of Homosassa and this great family sampled pretty much everything. We began the day on the outgoing tide redfishing and worked our way offshore. Every species we wanted to catch we encountered and the group had a fine catch to show for it. Action was steady on the rock piles and live shrimp on a 1/8oz Hank Brown jig head was our bait of choice for the day. I thank you all for the fun time and enjoy all the good fillets... Capt. Dan

Scallops and Rocks...

Myself and Capt. Rick Spratt had wonderful time with the Crymes family today and we loaded up on the scallops and caught a nice mixed bag on the rock piles. We met the group at Pete's Pier Marina and began the day just off the keys gathering our 8 gallon limit of scallops. Crystal clear water and perfect tides made it "easy" pickin's and our crew did outstanding. Just before noon we had our limit, cleaned our catch and then made our run offshore to spend the afternoon. Anchoring in the 8ft range, we caught a nice mix of grouper, grunts, sea bass, jacks, mackerel, etc.... and the action was very good. Live shrimp on a 1/8th oz Hank Brown jig head was our bait of choice for our success. I thank you all for the great time and look forward to seeing you again next time. Here's Colt with a handsome bag of scallops... Capt. Dan
