Crystal River Tarpon...

Pretty much the exact same deal as the other day on the tarpon, but Chris was on board to join Jim on his couple day adventure. We set up our drift looking for tarpon with DOA bait busters in hand and soon enough we were casting at fish. It took a little bit longer to hook up this time, but soon enough we had a shot and connected on a fish. Chris secured his first tarpon boat side and really did a great job fighting the fish.... Fun Tarpon....

Jim was on board again today and we were tarpon bound. We ran to the tarpon flats and set up a drift. Well, we were in fish right away and presented a DOA bait buster in front of a slow rolling fish. One cast, two twitches and a tarpon was in the air. Jim did a great job, on a really fun fish and we soon took a picture and watched her swim away... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Delivers....

You just had to be there today! What an experience with Bob and Nancy for their second trip this week and it was a day to remember. The day consisted of grouper, cobia, giant offshore spawning snook and another surprise tarpon. All these species were on a ledge and caught basically bottom fishing for grouper. The tarpon was so awesome and this one put on quite a show " almost landed in the boat on a series of jumps". We got it boat side for a quick picture and she swam away beautifully. A tremendous day and I thank you both.... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Surprise's....

A mix of surprises on the trip today! Pat and Laura Lou were on board with me today and we did some bottom dropping on some ledges. One thing I love about my job is everyday is different - and today was no exception. I pulled my pin fish traps and we ran offshore a ways. I set up in about 18ft of water and here came the variety. Snook, cobia, grouper, jacks and even a tarpon bent the rods for us. It was a sight to see all the different species and on the same location. Always a fun day with you both and we'll remember this one for a long time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mix...

A great day to wrap up my month of June with Joe on board for an awesome mixed bag. Joe and I covered some ground today as we began tackling a fine limit of gags and a whopper cobia. Dropping down live pin fish got it done for us and really caught a lot of gags in the 23" range. We added a couple trout and to top off the day, we were blessed and boated a beautiful tarpon just under the hundred pound mark. What a day and great job Joe. As I write this I'm backing my bags and headed to Wyoming Monday morning. I'll be there the entire month of July and I'll do my best to post some updates and fishing reports. All the best and see you all soon.... Capt. Dan

Fun size Tarpon...

Well Jim and I decided to give the little tarpon a try again today and we did well, plus some real nice snook in Crystal River. We were able to get out of the continuing West wind were having and make a day out of it. The tarpon took a clouser minnow and the snook, on the ever reliable DOA glow jerk bait. A fun time and here's my first little tarpon on the fly... Capt. Dan

Small Tarpon...

A little something different today and something I've been wanting to do for a while. Jim and I went exploring back in the canals and creeks in our area and found some little tarpon I've known about for a while. We scaled back the fly rods to an 8wt and little clouser minnow flies for these guys. We had a really fun time as we jumped a couple and brought one on board for a quick photo opportunity. Mission accomplished and thank you buddy for the fun day.... Capt. Dan

Bob's Big Tarpon...

The gulf was pretty bumpy today with a very stiff wind out of the SW and I was worried if anything was going to happen. Bob was with me once again and we began the day on the inside looking for tarpon. We saw a couple fish here and there, but nothing to really target. I made a run to a shallow ledge a couple miles offshore to get some action and we caught another nice cobia and some gags to bend the rod for us. The seas were SLOWLY improving and I made another stop for a tarpon. Well, I shut down and three fish rolled immediately and in no time Bob was hooked up. He did a tremendous job fighting the fish and congratulations on such a large one as well... Capt. Dan

Tarpon on Fly...

Hello everyone, well the tarpon season so far has been the typical tarpon fishing scenario. Some days we jump or land a fish and others all we get to do is look at them. Tim had a great day with me this week as he presented the fly beautifully to a string of fish and hooked up to a beauty of a Nature Coast tarpon. He fought the fish for over an hour on his 11wt fly rod and we brought her boat side for pictures and a healthy release. The old reliable cockroach fly pattern did the job and great job Tim... Capt. Crystal River Tarpon...

A good start to my tarpon season as I had Dave on board and he boated the first fish. He and I had a really fun day covering quite a bit of ground. The wind was up for the morning hours and we had to wait a couple hours for it to lay down to see some fish. Finally around noonish, the conditions got right and he hooked up. He did a terrific job and congratulations on your first tarpon... Capt. Dan
