Homosassa to Bayport...

A beautiful day on the tarpon flats with my good friend Ted and we covered some ground. We left from Macrae's at 6am and made our way south. The morning brought a beautiful sun rise and no sooner then we shut the motor down, we saw the first school of tarpon of the day. They were rolling next to the boat and we gave them several offers on the fly, but no takers. For a change of scenery, we made a long run towards Bayport and began working our way back North. We saw one more school of tarpon, but they were running hard South and were gone in no time. Tarpon fishing is a tough game on the fly rod, but hopefully we'll connect with one soon. Here's this mornings sunrise coming up over Chassahowitzka... Capt. Dan

Tarpon Season...

Hello everyone, well I've spent the last couple days doing a little scouting and getting ready for tarpon season. Myself and Capt. Jim Long spent Monday together checking the Homosassa and South locations and today I was with my good friend Nick checking the North. A few tarpon are here, but no big schools yet - just scattered pods of two to five fish. Any day now we should see the arrival of some large schools. Stay tuned and hopefully in the next couple weeks, we'll be putting some in the air... Capt. Dan

Tarpon on the Fly...

I hit a new milestone in my fishing career today and guided Oscar and Arno to a giant Crystal River tarpon on the fly rod. Oscar is a very well respected fly fisherman in the fishing community and it was a real treat to have him on board. Also along with us for the day was Oscars guest Arno from South Africa, and he was the man with the tarpon. We fished out of my tarpon rigged Silver King skiff and as luck would have it, hooked in to a beauty. The fight was fantastic and it took and hour and ten minutes to bring the fish boat side on one of my personally tied flies. We grabbed the leader for a legal catch, watched her swim away and this day was a memorable one. Thank you both for a great time and here is Arno hooked up in action... Capt. Dan

A very successful afternoon on tarpon! We located some good schools of fish off Homosassa and with ideal conditions, we had several shots of numerous fish. My wife and I were lucky enough to hook up on two tarpon and she did great getting some action shots. I still haven't got one quite to the boat for a holding shot, but we're getting closer each trip. Here's an awesome shot of the first tarpon of the day... Capt. Dan

Silver Hooked Up!!!!

Finally, today was the day. My good friend Matt and I teamed up, and we were on a mission to get on the tarpon. On the days I haven't been posting reports with my charters, I've been chasing down the silver king. I've had a couple shots at some fish, but only two quick hook ups so far this season - until today.  Locating pods of fish today, we were in the right place at the right time and hooking in to three tarpon. Two of the hook ups were immediately rejected and the other, we brought boat side. It was a great fight with the fish jumping five times, until the hook pulled right at boat side. We did get a couple action pictutres, but nothing to great. To end our trip, I suggested trying for a snook and we found a couple good ones to end the day. Thanks Matt for the great time and look forward to going again soon... Capt. Dan
