Crystal River Running Small....

They can't be big ones everyday and on today's charter, they definitely eluded us. I had Rick, Don and Mario on board and after we dodged the morning storms, it turned out to be a pretty nice day. We covered a bunch of ground from the North Shore off Crystal River to the back country in Dixie bay. The guys had action with red fish, mangrove snapper and a little pup snook, but we just couldn't get on any fish of any size. It was still a fun day and with super high tide from the steady SW wind, I gave the guys a great boat ride though the creeks. Thank you all for your efforts and here's Rick with a future trophy snook... Capt. Dan

Grouper Friday!!!

Another really good day trolling some shallow water grouper. Jim, John and William were on board with me today out of Pete's Pier Marina and the gang requested a grouper day. The marine forecast called for a little bit better conditions then what we experienced, but we delt with the chop and had an awesome day. We made our way offshore, picked up some live baits for insurance and took our time until we reached our destination. To start off, we began trolling the area and that's all I needed to see. The guys caught four beautiful keeper gags on Rapala X-rap 20's. The bite slowed for an hour or so, but we made a couple mile run and finished off our limit. For a finishing touch, we stopped in the 10ft range and added a couple quality mangrove snapper to the mix. I had a great time with you guys and thanks again for the fun time... Capt. Dan

An action packed day in the creeks, flats and near shore rock piles on today's Crystal River charter. I had Kay, Bill and Tommy on board and we had a fantastic day. To start the day we had a little and "I mean a little" bit of tide to work with to find a red fish. Luckily we found the right point and each of the guys caught some beautiful slot sized reds on free lined live shrimp. The water was getting supper skinny with the NE wind, so we did a combination of drifitng the flats for trout and anchoring on a rock pile to fill out the day. The trout action was Ok with a couple keepers, shorts and a bonus pompano, but the snapper fishing was superb. An easy limit on mangos made their way in the boat and another great day in the books. I thank you all for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Variety...

A fun day with Jen, Sam and Robert on board and they caught a little variety. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina at 8am, we had just enough tide to find a quick red fish. We pulled up to one of my favorite rocky points and immediately hooked up. The team did great right off the bat and free lining live shrimp, they caught red fish, flounder and snapper. The tide was getting low and for some sure fire action, we ran to the rocks and kept the rods bent. Grunts, numerous snapper, sea bass and grouper filled out the afternoon and everyone caught plenty of fish. A great time with a great family and I look forward to seeing you all again. Here's Jen with a fine gulf flounder... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Sampler....

What a day!!! Grouper, snapper, sea bass, grunts and red fish all by 1pm. I had Bill and Richard on board for today's Crystal River Charter and they had a day to remember. We left from Pete's Pier Marina just after 8am and made our way to the rocks. Great action with snapper, grunts and sea bass on a live shrimp with an 1/8th oz Hank Brown jig head was the bait of choice. With a good catch started, I made a quick stop on a shallow ledge on the way in and the team added a beautiful grouper to the mix. Only one grouper bite for us today, but the tide was running in and just getting right for trying our luck for a red fish or two. Well, the red fish bite was on and three perfect sized reds made thier way on board to top off the day. I thank you both for an excellent time and always look forward to our charters... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Rocks!!!

We made the trip offshore today and the grouper are stacked in the 20ft range. David, Scott and Andrew were on board with me today at the Homosassa Fishing Club and we skipped the scalloping, and ran West. A little bit of a bumpy West wind made us take a couple stops inshore, but when we finally reached the 20ft range it was on. The shallower rocks did produce some grouper, cobia, grunts and snapper, but the grouper were on the short side. Once we anchored up, we sent down some frozen threadfin herring and in short order, the guys had their limit. Only a couple break offs and sharks to contend with today, but the surprising thing was the grouper wanted the dead bait. We tried some live pinfish and I couldn't beleive it, no takers. A great couple days and the other Capts. on the trip did outstanding as well with scallops, red fish, trout, and a couple grouper. Thank you all for the fun time and here's my crew with today's catch... Capt. Dan

A fantastic day just offshore Crystal River and Mel and Jerry hit it out of the park. I met the guys at 8am at Pete's Pier Marina and we made our way to the trout grounds. It was a little breezy to make the initial run, so we tried the shallow area's; but had very little success. The winds calmed around 10am and we made our run offshore. In two quick drifts the guys had their limit of quality sized trout and bourbon colored Lil' John's were the bait of choice. After the excellent trout bite, we anchored on one of my favorite rock piles and added a few mangrove snapper and sea bass to top off the charter. What an excellent day and i can't thank you all enough. Here's Jerry and Mel with their fine catch... Capt. Dan

Yes folks, there was Ice on the boat until 10am today, but we made the best of it and had a fun day. Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association members Mark Zorn, William Toney and Gary Cox had the pleasure of fishing the Homosassa Fishing Club members out of Crystal River for this chilly December day. I had Bo, Brant and Ashley on board and we covered the all the basis from the river to the gulf. Through out the morning, we had great action in the river with mangrove snapper, trout and lady fish, but the table fair species were all on the short side. The wind was quite strong until noon time, so after noon, we made a quick dash to a shallow ledge and loaded up on the ever reliable tasty sea bass. My crew put 13 nice keepers in the cooler to secure our shore lunch for tomorrow.  The other captains had a nice assortment of mangrove snapper, sheepshead and a red fish and trout to total our trip. Capt. Zorn won the  prize with most keepers with 15 and yours truly just fell shy with 14 to take second place. I thank you all for the fun time and we'll see you tomorrow. Here's Ashley with one of our sea bass from today's Crystal River charter... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Calm Seas...

You could have taken a canoe offshore Crystal River today. Rob and Keith we on board and these gentlemen had a great Crystal River fishing charter. We began the day jigging up some trout on the bars with new penny MirrOlure Lil' Johns and the trout bite was pretty good. As a pleasant surprise, we caught a hard fighting bonito to add some excitement to the mix. The gulf calmed to a mirror flat surface around noon, so we made our run offshore and caught the usual mixed bag of goodies. it was a picture perfect day and I thank you both for the fun time. Here's the guys with a fine mixed bag... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Family Fun...

A mixed bag day for our Crystal River 1/2 day charter and I had the pleasure of having the Hamrick family on board. We met at Pete's Pier this morning to cloudy, chilly conditions and began the morning targeting trout in the shallow kelp beds in Salt River. The trout action was pretty good, but we had to catch them quick, due to the rapid out going tide and avoid getting "stuck"!  We put a couple keepers in the cooler and released several others before we returned to the river. The skies finally cleared, the sun was shining and some more fish were brought aboard. Mangrove snapper, red fish and black drum filled out the rest our charter and I thank you all for the great day. Here's Tommy with a Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan
