Crystal River, Deep Grass...

We were off to the deep grass patches on today's charter with Chris on board, and we did fine. I picked up Chris at his home on the Crystal River and we tried a few places in hopes of finding a tarpon this morning, but no signs for us today. With no tarpon showing themselves, we throttled down and ran offshore. Loaded with bourbon colored MirrOlure Lil' Johns on hand, we targeted the spotty bottom grass patches in 10ft of water to find our trout. We had a lot of variety of species including, red and gag grouper, sea bass, sheepshead, lady fish, sharks etc... to keep us busy. We called it a day just after 2pm and I thank you for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Tarpon with the Man...

A very special couple of days with one of my mentors that helped me get going in the business, Capt. Mike Locklear and we had a blast. Mike is retired and moved out of the area, but is always excited to spend some time on his old home waters. We've had this trip planned for quite a while and Mike loves to chase these tarpon as much as I do. We checked some of his old stomping grounds, some of mine and today, we were able to get one to cooperate. We took turns throwing the fly and luckily I was up and able to connect. A wonderful fight, some great pictures and we watched her swim away. I thank you Mike for a fun couple of days and here's yours truly, in the heat of the battle... Capt. Dan

Homosassa, Seeing a Few....

Not a hook up today, but we did see a few tarpon. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club with fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorm, William Toney and Jonathan Hamilton and we fished the Smith party. I had a fun father and son team on board, Robert and William, and they wanted to try their luck at fly fishing for tarpon. We loaded up in the silver king skiff and headed south. Things are still a little shaken up from the storm last week, but I'm hoping this week the water will clear up. We saw a couple free jumpers off in the distance crashing bait and did have a good shot at a pair of tarpon cruising by the boat, but as with most days for tarpon fishing; no hook ups. We met at the island and prepared a fine shore lunch from yesterdays catch of trout and red fish ( I was at a wedding) and we finished up the day with a great meal. Thank you all for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Bad weather and a couple last minute cancellations; I was worried if I was gong to be able to make it out this week. I originally had a an offshore cobia trip scheduled for today, but the conditions were not going to be favorable for doing so. However, I got a last minute call from Matt and Missy to try an squeeze a 1/2 day inshore charter in and the weather and circumstances worked out nicely. I met this great couple at Pete's Pier Marina and we had some luck finding a couple trout and red fish. We ran the backcountry and Salt River areas and with them being from New Jersey, they loved seeing the real Florida. We took a couple pictures of the fish, released them and called it a day. It was a pleasure meeting you both and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout...

A solo charter today with my good friend and client Chuck on board and he and I teamed up and caught our limit of trout. We left from Pete's Pier Marina and began the day trying to find a red fish or two, but only came up with a couple mangrove snapper. After numerous stops, I said "hey bud, lets go find some trout". The trout action was pretty good and really got hot, when the tide started running out. Bourbon colored Lil' Johns were the bait of the day rigged on a 1/8th oz jig head. Ten keepers made their way on board and we called it a day. I thank you for the great time and always look forward to our fishing trips... Capt. Dan
