Offshore Sheeps....

Blue skies and sunshine... "FINALLY". A beautiful day out of Crystal River and Pat, Robert and Brad had a day. With very favorable conditions for running offshore; I told the guys hang on, we're going West. I spent the day on some deeper rocks, wrecks and ledges and the sheepshead were in a frenzy. The action was non stop and the water was crystal clear. The gang would hook a fish and we would watch the others follow it up off the bottom. I suggested keeping five a person and we released the others. Some fine tasting grunts kept the rods bent as well and a outstanding day is in the books. Thank you all for great time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Today was our annual Homosassa Elementary 5th grade fishing trip with myself and the entire Homosassa Guides Association out of River Side Resort. This is a fun field trip for the 5th grade class and besides catching fish; they include some science, math and good outdoor education. I had Mr. Hannet's group on board and these young guys had a blast catching more mangrove snapper and lady fish than they could count. Myself and the other guides kept it simple and fished the Homosassa Head Waters. This is such a big success with all the kids and nothing brings a bigger smile on our faces than seeing these kids catching some fish. Thank you to Capt. Mike Baize for coordinating the yearly event and Homosassa Elementary for the opportunity to teach our up and coming generation the outdoors... Capt. Dan

Nature Coast Lady Anglers...

I want to send a big thank you to the Nature Coast Lady Anglers for having me as a guest speaker at their monthly meeting. I met this fine group of lady anglers at the Plantation on Crystal River and we covered several topics on inshore fishing. Tides, moon phases, tackle, knots and my favorite lures - we had a great time. It was privilege to speak with you all and I hope you have much success next time you're all on the water... Capt. Dan

More Sheeps in the Fog...

Tough weather for the end of last week and today; although it started out beautiful - the fog rolled in thick. Mike and Barbara were my guests for the day and we stuck with the winter time pattern and found some sheepshead and trout. On the way to the mouth of the river, I stopped on a shallow flat to pick up a trout or two. The trout were there in some "reel" skinny water, but they didn't want to feed. Many of the fish were in the 20" range and it's always impressive seeing such large trout in such shallow water. The next stop was on the sheepshead grounds. The tide was on stand still when we arrived there was not much happening until it turned to come it. When the water began moving, the sheep's fired up and the action was great. Around that time however, the fog came in and soaked us is. It was another slow ride in and we picked up a couple trout to end the trip. Thank you both for the fun time and look forward to seeing you soon... Capt. Dan
