Cold Front Gags & Trout...

A chilly, windy, day on the big pond and to be honest; a day I would usually cancel but Matt and Phil were ready to give it their all. The team and I left the Plantation on Crystal River at 8:30am and we reached the river mouth to very low water and a steady gusty NE wind. I figured targeting trout would be our best bet and we brought in a couple keepers and quite a few shorts, before I made a run to grouper land. The sea's were rough and I homesteaded the 10ft range for a nice catch of gag grouper. The guys did a combination of casting plugs and trolling to fill out their grouper limit. A fun time as always and a great job on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mix...

One of those special days when everything comes together and I had "uncle" Phil on board for his yearly fall trip. Grouper was our main goal and surprisingly, the sea's were much more favorable than expected. Phil and I did some shallow water plug casting and brought in a limit of gags in 7ft of water and released a few others. Phil loves to eat fish, so I anchored up on a little rock and filled a bucket with grunts for some more tasty treats. The next plan was giving trout a try. He and I made a long drift off they keys and brought 8 fine keeper trout to add to the days total. One more stop to go, and a couple red fish bent the rods to finish off this amazing Crystal River charter. I always enjoy our days fishing bud and great job on a great catch... Capt. Dan

Beautiful Offshore....

Without a doubt, the most picture perfect beautiful day one could ask for and Clell and Lee were able to experience it. We left the Plantation on Crystal River to very foggy conditions, but once we reached the Mangrove Pt. area, it was smooth sailing offshore. The guys and I targeted the 28ft area today and with glass calm conditions, we had a awesome catch. A limit of gag grouper, a big king Mack, several grunt and a hog fish filled out the day. I bottomed fished today, as the grass was just to thick to drag plugs. On the way back inshore, I was reluctant to red fish as it was so slow yesterday; but we hit one little pocket and brought in four fine slot sized red fish to end the day. A perfect day and I thank you both as always for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Veterans Day Grouper...

A very special Veterans Day with Rick and Larry and the grouper bite was awesome. Today was my annual grouper trip with the team and it was fabulous. We trolled some various ledges with Rapala CD 14's and brought in four beautiful gag grouper. Larry had big fish honors with one almost 20lbs and it put up a fantastic battle. The inshore scene was a bit slow and we caught a couple under slot red fish, with one making the grade. A fun day with you both and enjoy the grouper dinners... Capt. Dan

We almost canceled today due to the "lovely rainy weather" but I'm glad we gave it a try. I had the pleasure of fishing the West party out of the Homosassa Fishing Club and the gang had some of the best red fishing I've seen in a while. The red fish bite was good for almost a solid hour and some fine sized ones as well. It was windy, rainy and we all thought we were crazy for being out there; but those couple hours made the day... What a day with Mishel and Earl on board for day two and it was some fast and furious grouper action. I was a bit worried with today's weather forecast, but we gave it a try and I'm glad we did. I kept it simple and trolled some breaks. The team and I made a quick run towards Homosassa and did great. Dorado was the color today and in less than and hour, we had four beautiful grouper on ice. Two excellent days; I hope you enjoy all the grouper dinners and I can't thank you both enough for the fun time... Capt. Dan

One of those special days on the big pond with my great clients Mishel and Earl and the bite was on. I trolled some offshore rock piles in the 22ft range and with Rapala x-rap 20's, the grouper were thumping. Bunker was the hot ticket and the couple brought in a limit of grouper in short order. I did a little exploring and we caught and released several grouper over 10lbs while finding some new "goodies". On the way home, I drove over the massive school of black drum I saw the other day and I called my great friend Capt. Clay Shidler over and we had a ball. All our clients hooked up and we had a couple hours of non stop action. An incredible day and I thank you all for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Gags...

A really fun day with Bill and Butch on board and we found some fine shallow water grouper. I fishing the 12ft to 15ft range and with a combination of bottom fishing and trolling; the team caught their limit. The weather was absolutely perfect and almost to nice for the afternoon hours as it was slick calm. Live pin fish and frozen thread fin herring were the baits for the bottom fishing; while Rapala x-rap 20's did the trick for the trolling. A fun time and I hope to see you both in the future soon... Reds & Gags...

A fun day with Mike, Scott and Steve on board and we did a little inshore and offshore fishing. The red fish bite kicked off our day and it was pretty good. We jumped around on the outside points and found a handful of keepers and several shorts to start or day. Free lined live shrimp in the mullet schools were the baits of the day for the red fish and they worked just great. The next stop was grouper land. I ran to some of my north numbers and we caught a couple, but it was slow compared to what it should have been right now. The team caught some trolling and bottom fishing - however I hope we get a cold front soon to really turn them on. I thank you all for the fun time and here's Mike with one of today's red fish to start the day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Inside & Out...

What a perfect day with the Steele team out of the Plantation on Crystal River and we had a awesome day. Today's trip began targeting red fish on the outer keys, and we caught several reds to get the day going. We boated close to twenty with a couple keepers before we made our run offshore. The sea's were absolutely perfect and I made the trek to 28ft of water. The grouper were feeding well and in just a couple drops, we had our six keepers. We made our way back inshore and I crossed a "GIANT" school of black drum. There was close to a thousand fish and truthfully, maybe more. I made a quick cast with a jig and we hooked up to a 30lb monster to give Andy a great tug of war. We landed the fish, added a couple trout to the mix and what a great day in the books. I thank you all for the fun time and look forward to next time... Capt. Dan
