Homosassa Variety...

An action packed day for sure out of the Homosassa Fishing Club and I joined my good friend Capt. Mark Zorn fishing the Hansen party. I had Richard and Jerry on board for the day and the guys had the hod rods. We made our quick run offshore to about 8ft of water and the trout bite was on. We had out limit of fifteen trout by 11am and even released a few others. With red fishing really not being all that fantastic at the time and the tide running out; we opted to go rock jumping. We jigged an assortment of different rocks and had a nice variety. Sea bass, keeper sized gags, cobia, flounder etc... were keeping us busy for the afternoon. It was a perfect day and I can't thank you both enough. Here's both teams with our catches for the day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Going Deep...

Not to much different it today's report- other then the gulf slicked off and had a slow hour or so of fishing. I had the pleasure of having the Worthington family on board and we made our way offshore once again. A beautiful day working the spotty bottom grass patches and we had excellent mixed bag action. Bourbon colored Lil' Johns and motor oil colored DOAs did the trick. The trout are definitely keying in on shrimp and almost every trout we caught were spitting them up. I can't thank you all enough for such a great time and congratulations on such a fine catch... Capt. Dan

We made the run to the spotty bottom areas off Crystal River today and the trout were very cooperative. I had two guests from Europe on board today and they experienced not only a beautiful day, but some excellent fishing. The trout action was steady all morning with several keepers coming on board and eventually, we reached our limit of healthy speckled trout. Bourbon colored Lil' Johns and motor oil DOA cal shad tails were the baits of choice. The usual mixed catch of sharks, sea bass, lady fish, etc... kept us quite busy. On the way in we stopped along "the wall" and picked up a keeper red fish to end our trip. I can't thank you both enough for such a great day and I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay. Here's Graham and his wonderful girlfriend with a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa to Bayport...

A beautiful day on the tarpon flats with my good friend Ted and we covered some ground. We left from Macrae's at 6am and made our way south. The morning brought a beautiful sun rise and no sooner then we shut the motor down, we saw the first school of tarpon of the day. They were rolling next to the boat and we gave them several offers on the fly, but no takers. For a change of scenery, we made a long run towards Bayport and began working our way back North. We saw one more school of tarpon, but they were running hard South and were gone in no time. Tarpon fishing is a tough game on the fly rod, but hopefully we'll connect with one soon. Here's this mornings sunrise coming up over Chassahowitzka... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore...

I'm telling those grouper "watch out, only two months to go" before the season opens. David and Steve joined me today out of Crystal River and they wanted to experience some hard fighting fish. I suggested cobia and grouper and the guys said "great, lets do it". Cobia was going to be our first target and once we anchored on our structure, we caught three just under keeper sized cobia to start the day. Free lined live pin fish was the bait of choice for the cobia. With some great pictures and the guys ready for some grouper; we made a couple mile run, anchored and FISH ON. We caught and released eleven keeper sized gags to 16lbs and had our lines busted a couple times as well. We called it a day a little early and the guys couldn't have been more happier. Here's David with the big grouper of the day released, to be caught again in July... Capt. Dan

A great day on the big pond with Gary, Jim and Kristi for a full day Crystal River charter. We left from Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and made our track south off the keys. The tide was quite low and there wasn't much happening after a couple drifts for the first hour. The tide was about to turn around 10am and the breeze was calming, so we made a run to the 10ft range and did some jigging on the early summer time locations. Well, the trout are there and we also picked up a couple flounder and sea bass to add to the mix. Bourbon colored Lil Johns and motor oil DOA jerk baits were the flavor of the day. We wrapped it up just after 2pm and called it a day. I thank you all for the fun time and hope to see you soon... Capt. Dan

New Record Trout...

Hello everyone, today's charter set a new record for my boat having the largest trout caught on a charter. Bill and Brad joined me again for day two out of Crystal River and the fish turned on for us today. The trout settled in to the weather change and were feeding once again. My plan today was to fish the shallow "yellow" hard bottom areas and try to stay out of the wind as much as possible. The plan worked excellent and even though the trout were not interested in cork rigs, glow DOA jerk baits were on fire. Making long drifts over the flats produced several nice trout in the upper slot range including a true gator trout reaching the 27" mark. This is the largest trout I've had a client catch and we safely released her to fight another day. The guys caught their limit of trout and will be taking plenty of tasty trout fillets back to Georgia. We couldn't find a red fish to add to the mix, but what a great turn around day to end their stay. I thank you both for a fun couple days and look forward to seeing you again soon. May Cold Front....

Another unexpected change in the weather pattern and a late season cold front came through today. Brad and Bill joined me out of Crystal River for a full day of inshore fishing and I'll say "it was a tough one". The water temperature dropped in to the upper 60's and it just about gave the fish lock jaw. We worked hard for our strikes and did catch four nice keeper trout to show for our efforts. The day stayed chilly and I would have paid for a pair of jeans, if I could have bought some on the water. The wind was picking us and gusting strong, so we spent the afternoon in the creeks red fishing. The red fish were just as tough to find as the trout for us, but Bill saved the day and landed a just over 18" red fish to end the day. I appreciate all your patience today guys and we'll go get them tomorrow. Here's Bill with a brightly colored multi spot red fish... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Family Trip pt. II

Day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club and I had the pleasure of having the Fuson family on board for the day. Capt's Zorn, Spratt and Toney were on the trip as well and trout, red fish and another fine shore lunch was on order. It was a little misty leaving the club dock just after 8am, but the skies soon cleared and what a beautiful day on the Homosassa flats. My team caught some nice trout for the first couple hours of the morning and once the tide was right for red fishing, we added a couple of them too. Free lined live shrimp for the red fish and DOA deadly combos rigged with bourbon colored Lil' Johns were the baits of choice for the trout. I thank you all for a great time and look forward to your next visit to Homosassa... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Family Trout...

Today was family day at the Homosassa Fishing Club and myself and Capt's. Jody Johnson, Mark Zorn and Rick Spratt fished the Spearman party, to a good day catching and shore lunch. I had the Morgan family on board and these young anglers and dad did great. From catching several trout, to young Jack being my net man, they had a fun time. We had a good catch of trout before noon, then ran to the island and prepared a fantastic shore lunch. We did eat a little fast trying to beat the storms in, but ended up getting rained on some, once we reached tiger tail bay. I thank you all for the great day and here's my crew with one of today's trout... Capt. Dan
