Crystal River Fishing Charters & Homosassa Fishing Charters in Citrus County, Florida

Steve and Stevie joined me today for a father and son 1/2 day trip and we caught some nice trout. We left at 9am and allowed it to warm up a "bit" before we ran down the river. We fished a couple rock out cropping in the river and with just a live shrimp on a jig head, we did well. We caught close to 20 trout, mostly little guys; but a couple keepers too. The father and son team added a couple more nice trout caught on DOA jerk baits before we called it a day. I thank you both as always for a great time and I look forward to seeing you again soon... Winter Day Trout & Sheep's...

If you ever think of a classic over cast chilly winter day with some light rain mixed in; well, we had it today. Henry, Helen and Derrick were my guests today and even though the conditions were not all that great, we had a good catch. I primarily fished the same areas as yesterday's trip with similar results. The trout were caught on DOA glow jerk baits and we found the sheepshead on the ledges in about 12ft of water. The weather unfortunately chased us in just after 1pm and we called in a day. We had a fun time and I look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

A fine winter day out of Crystal River with some great guys. Larry, Henry and John were on board and we did a little inside and out fishing. We started the day using DOA glow jerk baits around some kelp grass patches in 3ft of water and on a couple drifts, the team caught some nice trout. Only a couple shorts and all the keepers were nice quality fish. We left the inside and headed out to some ledges. We caught a mix of sheepshead, grunts and some gags to fill out the afternoon. The action was surprisingly slow compared to yesterday, but we still did well. I thank you all for the great day and I look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Nature Coast Outdoors!!!

Once the fog cleared, it was a perfect day to be offshore. Today my great friend Capt. William Toney, the host of the fantastic local TV show "Nature Coast Outdoors" and I filmed a great show targeting sheepshead on the rocks off Crystal River. We left from the Plantation on Crystal River and made our way offshore. The weather got us down yesterday, but today it was excellent. Non stop action with sheepshead and grouper - it will be a good one to tune in on in the coming weeks. I always enjoy fishing with you bud, and thanks for a great day... Capt. Dan

Trying to make it out!!!

Since last week, we've had some pretty rough and chilly weather. Last Thursday brought one of the lowest tides we've seen in years here in Citrus County. Winds close to 30mph pushed all the water out and it was quite a sight to see the bay and river at an extreme low. I canceled a couple trips in a row and with the extreme drop in water temperature and choppy conditions; I felt the bite would have been off and rescheduled the charters. Sunday, I had the pleasure of fishing the Chrisite's trip out of the Best Western on Crystal River with fellow Capts. Mike Baize, Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, William Toney, Randy Hodges and Jonathan Hamilton. We had a couple hours to fish and we all stayed in the river and caught some mangrove snapper, small red fish and lady fish. Not fantastic fishing, but we all had some action and everyone had a ball. So for today's wrap up, I was scheduled to film a tv show with my great friend Capt. William Toney, the host for Nature Coast Outdoors, but the weather chased us in. However, we are going to try it again tomorrow and hopefully the sheepsheads will be biting and I'll be able to give a great report about the day... Capt. Dan

Sheep's on the Breaks...

Always a great time with Lee and Clell on board and today we hit some ledges and fished the breaks. The sheepshead are pretty much taking residence on their winter haunts and are cooperating nicely. We fished a couple different ledges and all produced some fine sheepshead and some gag grouper as well. Live shrimp on a knocker rig did the trick, but the bites were spread out and not to aggressive. The guys had a nice catch of sheep's, and we ended the day with a pair of trout to take home. Thank you both for the great day and look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Skinny Water Trout...

Quite the trout bite today on the North side of Ozello and they were hitting excellent. I had a solo charter today, Josh from North Carolina on board and we took the skiff and found the trout. The tide was as an extreme low one and I couldn't have gotten even close to these fish today in the big boat. We fished the shallow pot holes and depressions with DOA glow jerk baits and in two drifts, we caught our limit and released a few others. With a nice catch of trout, we then poled the creeks for some red fish and saw a nice tailer. We couldn't connect on him, but did catch a beautiful multi spot one before we called it a day. Thanks Josh for the great time and look forward to seeing you again... Capt. Dan

Catch and Release Gags...

What an incredible day to be offshore. Calm seas, top to bottom visibility and the grouper were on! I had my dear great clients Mishel and Earl on board for the day and as a treat, they asked if my wife Becky could come along and join the fun. The day was perfect for trolling and we trolled up some fine grouper on Rapala x-rap 20's. Just about all the gags were above the 14lb mark and the largest was just under 20lbs. We did anchor up and try our luck for a hog fish, but none today. Lots of non stop action though with grunts, more large grouper and a trigger fish. A beautiful day with great friends and family and I thank you all so much for the excellent day.... Capt. Dan
