Trout Land..

The gulf is warming up again and trout are getting happy. After the early May cold front last week, it sure put the trout bite down a bit. Today though, we jigged the spotty bottom grass patches in 6ft-8ft of water and did well. Lots of good trout action and other mixed species kept us busy. MirrOluire Lil' Johns and DOA cal shad tails were the baits of the day. The Worthington family did fantastic and I always look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Mother's Day Cobia...

One of those special day's and happy Mothers Day to all the mom's out there. I was fortunate to spend the day with mine and my wife, and we had a ball. We lucked into a pair of real hefty cobia with one being 41lbs and the other 38lbs. We sight fished them with DOA bait busters and they couldn't resist them. After the run offshore, I made our way in the north county creeks and we caught a couple beautiful snook to wrap up the day. A truly fantastic mothers day and you can always see the additional pictures on my Crystal River Fishing Facebook page... Capt. Dan

Still Chilly...

A little better bite on the trout today, but still pretty tough conditions and a stiff NW wind. Ted and Curtis were my guests and these gentlemen love catching trout. I covered quite a bit of ground from shallow jerk baits, jigging to DOA deadly combos. The cork rigs produced the best for us today with glow colored Lil Johns being the top producer. The team secured a couple fine trout for dinner and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

May - Cold Front...

48 degrees this morning as I was hooking up the boat and I'm glad I still had a jacket in my truck. I met Bill and Butch at the Best Western this morning and windy conditions and a big drop in the gulf water temperature were the conditions for the day. The front pretty much locked up the fish, but we gave it our best and we caught a couple trout and red fish. By early afternoon it was blowing close to 20knts, so we called it a day. Always fun fishing with you all and good job for a tough day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout & Reds...

It's been a long time in the making, but I was finally able to fish with my good friend Jimmy and his family today. Jimmy and I went to school together and his girlfriend Libby, treated him and her family to a charter for a Christmas present. Today's trip was very good as the red fish cooperated pretty well right away and the trout action was excellent too. DOA deadly combos were the hot ticket for the trout and it was fun to use cork rigs in about 4ft of water for the trout. The red fish bit on live shrimp on a jig head and the team fished really well throughout the day. I thank you all for the fun time and I really hope we get to do it again sometime soon... Capt. Dan

Offshore Trout...

A run offshore to the 8ft range with the North party on board and we spent the day jigging up the trout. I met the gang at the Plantation on Crystal River just before 8am and began trying for a red fish or two. Well, the red fish bite was not happening, so we jumped in to the trout game and it was a good choice. I loaded the team up with MirrOlure Lil Johns, and we caught an assortment of species; plus some fine trout. It was a couple here and there kind of day, but we hung in the game and did well. Thank you all for the fun time and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan
