Tarpon Boatside...
My yearly tarpon trip with Mr. Joe and we had a good day. We had a stiff West wind to contend with, but we toughed it out and found a couple happy tarpon. We jumped a couple fish and brought a fun size fish about 50lbs boat side. Joe did great and I always look forward to next time... Capt. Dan
Crystal River Offshore...
A little break from the tarpon action and my first offshore trip since grouper season opened June 1st and it was a fun day. I had Bob and Nancy on board out of the Plantation on Crystal River and we made of way out to the 30ft range. We fished a couple different structures and did very well. I will say this, with the new gag grouper size regulation being 24"; it's going to be a tough year for constant limits of grouper. We released over a dozen gag grouper that would have been keeper fish last year, but we eventually had our 4 keepers ranging from 24" to 27". We added some grunts and snapper to the mix and I thank you both for the fun day... Capt. Dan
Crystal River Mix...
Always a fun time with Bob and when he's on board, it's a great time. For today's trip, we did a little bit of everything. We began the day catching a snook back in the creeks in salt river, and then made our way offshore for some grouper. Well, the grouper bite was good; but they were all on the short side for us today. The cobia were around too, but all around the 30" mark, but fun all the same. To end the day, I checked a hole and found a couple tarpon and we battled a fine fish for about 30 minutes before she broke off. A great really good mix for the day and I thank you for the fun time... Capt. Dan
Big Poon...
What a great day with Tim and his wife Jeanne and Tim set the record for big fish on my boat. Tim was loaded with my G-Loomis 12wt crosscurrent fly rod and presented the fly to a string of cruising tarpon and the big fish of the school, took the fly. Tim set the hook and an absolute monster tarpon fight was on. The fish put on a great show and we had the leader in the rod guides several times throughout the over hour and a half fight. Unfortunately, the fish got tail wrapped and wore through the tippet. We may have not put our hands on her, but a great achievement and congratulations on a spectacular fish... Capt. Dan
Tarpon to the Boat...
Always a fun day with Cheryl on board and today was her yearly tarpon trip. She had a fantastic day casting DOA bait busters and landed a fine Crystal River tarpon. To add to the day, we also tackled some beautiful gag grouper and a cobia. Live pin fish did the trick for the grouper and cobia and I thank you for the fun time... Capt. Dan
