Crystal River Fishing Charters & Homosassa Charters

The weather turn around day for sure, and was it ever pretty. Terry, Jack and David joined me for the day and with calm seas, we made the run offshore Crystal River. I began working some of my shallow locations and it just wasn't happening. The dirty water from yesterdays winds didn't give me any confidence, so we hammered down and made the run to 30ft of water. We sent down the plugs and in less than an hour, the team had their limit. All real nice sized gags and only two shorts. A picture perfect day and I thank you all for the great time...

Well, the seas have calmed some since the front came through the last two days, but the water sure is dirty. I had Jim, Lenny and Bill on board for the day and we had a grouper charter scheduled, so we gave it a try. The floating grass situation was much better since last week and we were able to make plenty of clean drags. We hit one ledge and the guys had a pair of really big fish over 15lbs. That was it though for the day for grouper and the seas got rough just after noon. We did add a couple trout and mackerel to the mix to end the day and I thank you all for the fun time. I've been waiting for the trout to turn on, and on today's Crystal River Charter, they finally did. I had the pleasure of having the Spann family on board for the day and with hopes of grouper fishing; today's conditions weren't going to allow us to do so. For a plan B, we drifted off the keys and the trout were on fire. The choppy condition's turned the trout on or they came inshore (which ever, I was glad to see it). For a couple hours, someone had a trout on their line and the action was fantastic. Watermelon red flake MIrrOlure Lil' Jon's under DOA deadly combo corks were the baits of the day and it was fantastic. John broke the ice with a fine river snook to get the day going and it sure was great to see the trout cooperating. Thank you all for the great day and look forward to seeing you next time... Capt. When the bites hot its hot, but when it's not- it makes for some slow fishing. That was the case across the board for us today at the Homosassa Fishing Club, fishing the Turman party. I had Stewart, Charlie and Lyle on board and we stayed inshore and worked for some trout; before our 12:30 shore lunch. From the shallow flats to the 8ft depth range I covered it all. The guys caught two keeper trout and a bonus keeper gag grouper while jigging for trout. That was it though for keepers, while the by-catch of blue fish, lady fish, sea bass and lizard fish kept it interesting. My team and I made the 20 plus mile trek offshore Homosassa today and we found the red and gag grouper. David, Charlie and Tom were with me for the day and since the shallow water grouper bite has slowed some, I was ready to hit my offshore hot spots. Our first stop was in 32ft of water and "wow," the red grouper were on fire. I beleive we caught 12 keepers that had to be released and not one gag grouper came aboard. I was a bit worried, but our next stop south; produced our limit of gags. Great grouper action and fast and furious action with grunts, sea bass and a bonus trigger fish made the day. Follow the birds and you'll find the fish. Well, that's an old saying and it couldn't be more true off Crystal River right now. I had Bill and Karen on board for the day and even tough the grouper didn't want to play today, we had some fun action with jacks, bonito, grunts and mangrove snapper. The inshore grouper locations are tough to fish with the recent "dirty" water and the floating grass is back again; which makes trolling impossible. To make up for the slow grouper bite, we had steady action on the rocks with grunts and mango snapper and for drag screaming fun - the jacks and bonito are hard to beat. Hardly a ripple of the gulf today and we had the weather to go offshore. Buck, Norm and Larry were with me for the day and we were offshore bound. I haven't been to the 30ft range in a while, so that was where we targeted the grouper. We sent down the plugs and Norm hooked up with a smoker king fish to get the day going. The grouper turned on for about an hour, as was to be expected before the tide started hauling in. We caught six fine gags, anchored up and added some grunts to the mix then called it a day. If you're a fisherman, you either love the full moon tides or don't. I personally like them for red fishing, but grouper can be a bit tough with the large volume of water moving. However, the bite usually gets good though on the slack periods. Today Clell and Lee joined me for the day and we were able to troll up a quick keeper gag, before we hit the keys for red fish. The red fishing was good today and we did have to work for the keepers we had. Lots and lots of under slot fish kept us busy and it's always nice to see our up and coming red fish in good numbers. The trout bite was not happening for us today with only one keeper, but the red fish and grouper were on. Bart, Jim and Richard were with me for the day and what a fun day. We tried drifting for trout for a couple hours off the keys, however they did not want to cooperate. The red fish on the other hand were awesome. The team caught double digit red fish and free lined live shrimp were the baits of the day. To end the trip, the seas calmed and we trolled up a pair of fine gags to take back to Pete's Pier. The weather forecast was a bit off today and the seas were definitely not 2ft or less. However, Brad and Aaron joined me for the day and we targeted some shallow water grouper on some near shore locations. The south winds have pushed the floating grass back to the North off Crystal River which made trolling just about impossible. We did catch one fish right away on a clean drag, but the rest of our charter we bottom fished. A a team we turned a couple keepers, several short gags and released five cobia.
