Dense Fog Trout & Sheeps...

Hands down, probably the most dense fog I've ever experienced on the water today. I had the pleasure of having Tim and Steve on board and we knew going in to today there was a rain chance, but the severe dense fog was a big surprise. We cleared the mouth of the river and the fog was bad. I took extreme care moving around today, but the fishing was very good. The trout action was great on bourbon colored MirrOlure Lil' Johns, and shrimp on knocker rigs pulled in the sheepsheaded. It was a very stressful ride home in the fog and we eventually reached the mouth of the river safely and had a fantastic catch... Capt. Dan

A different game plan today and I ran south of Homosassa and tried my way south numbers with Johnny and Lloyd on board. We made our trek to the 20ft range and wow, were the grouper ever on fire. Despite the 53 degree water temp, the gags were keeping us busy all day. We eventually caught some fine sheepshead, numerous grunts and I had hoped for some hog fish; but only one under sized one bent our rod today. We had a great time and I hope to do it again with you guys soon... Capt. Dan

49 Degree Sheeps.....

Ice on the boat and a coooooold ride!!! I had Ron, Jim and Joe on board from the Villages fishing club today and with a gulf water surface temp at 49 degrees, I was a bit worried. Typically the trout won't bite when it's that cold, so thank goodness for sheepshead. The bite was extremely slow for the day and to be honest, I was getting worried with only having a handful for a couple hours of fishing. Eventually the fish got happy around 2pm and we had a nice catch to end the day. I thank you all for the fun time and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout & Sheeps...

A fantastic day with the Goodwin family today out of the Plantation on Crystal River and we had a blast. I decided to give a trout a try on the incoming tide and even thought the gulf water temperature was in the low 50's; a slowly presented MirrOlure Lil John did the trick. The couple did a great job with 10 nice trout and we then ran to the sheepshead grounds and did well. We anchored on one hard bottom area and had a great catch of sheepshead for the last of the incoming tide. Our final stop, we added a nice slot sized red fish to the mix on the North side creeks and called it a day. I had a wonderful time with you both and I look forward to seeing you again... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Big Sheeps...

What a great day in sheepshead land with the Riley team. The weather was just right for going offshore and we fished the 20ft range and had an outstanding day. A light chop on the gulf and we sent down our knocker rigs for the sheepshead. The team had some hefty ones in the 7-8lb range for the big ones, and really all good sized ones for us today. A fun time and I look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Just about a mirror image to yesterdays charter and a great sheepshead and trout bite again for my team out of Crystal River. I had the Lent party on board and these gentleman had quite the day. From dropping live shrimp on a couple of my favorite sheepshead haunts and jigging trout on the rocks - what a day. Live shrimp on knocker rigs produced the sheepshead and Bourbon colored Lil' Johns did the trick for the trout. I thank you all for the outstanding trip and enjoy all the fresh fillets... Capt. Dan

Another great day for my favorite winter time special - sheepshead and trout. Bob and Mike were on board and the team had a ball. We began the day targeting sheepshead, while using live shrimp on knocker rigs. The sheepshead cooperated quite well, but a big surprise for me today was catching a couple red fish a ways offshore. One red fish was an under slot and the other was a keeper. Our next stop was jigging some trout and on just a couple drifts, the guys caught some fine trout to finish up our day. I thank you both for the awesome time and I always look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Amerigas Trip...

Definitely the coldest trip of the year so far, but the fising was great. Ice on the boat this morning and I was a bit worried, especially after the sudden cold spell.  However, I had the pleasure of fishing the Amerigas corporate group trip out of the Plantation on Crystal River and my team won top honors. Ed, Toney and Don were on board and the sheepshead and trout bite was excellent. The team bundled up, fished hard and had a fantastic catch to show for their efforts. I thank you all for the excellent day and I do hope your group comes back next year, for another fun day... Capt. Dan

Heavy Weight Sheeps...

Another fantastic day on the sheepshead grounds with Mike, Tim and Mike and these gentlemen did great. We eased along spot to spot and picked up a couple sheepshead on each location we fished. The steady action though, was the gag grouper. My goodness, we must have caught over hundred grouper today. Most were small ones, but extremely aggressive. Live shrimp on knocker rigs were the ticket and we also added a couple trout to the catch to end the day. Tim had big fish honors with one almost 10lbs and I thank you all for the fun day... Capt. Out of Retirement....

Yes, it sure felt good to be back on the water and out of retirement." Kidding of course, but I generally can only make it about three days off the water before I get the itch." Today though, the winds calmed and I knew the sheepshead action would be in full swing. I had Clell and Lee on board and with gulf water temperatures below 60 degrees, the sheepshead are a best bet. We had an out standing day with a great mix of trout, numerous and numerous grouper and several sheepshead to fill out the day. A fun time with you both as always and I look forward to next time...
