I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the day with your family, friends and I look forward to seeing you on the water soon. Here's a close up of a male hog fish, we caught offshore Homosassa... Capt. Dan
Hello everyone, not to much to report over the last couple of days with the current weather conditions. I've had several grouper charters scheduled, but I just can't make it offshore and had to cancel them. I did however, fish inshore last Friday and we found some red fish; but only the shorts would cooperate. We sight fished a couple schools of really nice sized reds, but the chilly gulf water temperature had them locked up and would not eat a perfectly placed shrimp. More bad weather is on the horizon until Thanksgiving, but hopefully Friday; I'll be back on the water.... Capt. Dan
Baby it's cold outside "ice on the boat until 9am". Well, this is the cold front we did not need. The gulf has plummeted into the low 50's and not being on the water the last three days; it is the game changer. The winds are forecast to be up for the long range forecast and I personally only have done well on grouper when the gulf is above the 58 degree mark. I hope for warmer weather before the December 3rd season closure, but there's plenty of other species to target; which leads me to today. On today's charter I had Allen and Mike on board and we stayed inshore for the incoming tide and found some fine red fish. The bite was slow to be expected, but we caught several shorts, an over slot and some keepers to make the day. Free lined live shrimp and DOA jerk-baits were the baits of the day. Thank you both for the good time and great job on a chilly day... Capt. Dan
This grouper season has been incredible and today was one of the best yet. Larry, Ben and Kenny joined me for a Crystal River Grouper Charter and the bite was on. I made a run to 11ft of water and trolled over a low profile rock and "wham", first fish on. As we reeled in that fish, several others were following; so we pitched back a plug and fish number two was on. We repeated that process twice and had four fish in the boat in a matter of minutes. It was fantastic action and I didn't want to deplete the rock, so a quick run to 20ft and we were in the fish again. A couple drops, a couple more keepers and "wow" we had a day. This is going to be the last decent day for a while with some cold and gusty weather coming. Hopefully by mid week, the conditions will improve and I'll be back on the water. Thanks guys for the great day... Capt. Dan
