Crystal River Trout & Reds...

The rain, rain has finally gone away!!! Today's Crystal River charter was a fun one with the McNamee family on board and the guys did great. We left from Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and with the top of the tide turning to go out, we began the charter catching a couple red fish. We ran south and worked the outer keys and once again, free lined live shrimp in the mullet schools did just fine for the reds. A couple keepers and under slot reds got the day going and for the rest of the day, we tackled some trout. We made a series of long drifts off the keys and the first drift was quite good. However, after that, the bite slowed and for the afternoon there wasn't much action. Bourbon colored Lil' Johns was the top color today, but a few trout did come on the fire tiger DOA shrimp. It was a fun time with you guys and I look forward to seeing you all again in the future... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Reds....

A fun 1/2 day trip with Tom on board and I found him a couple nice red fish. Tom was solo today and we've had some great trout catches in the past, but I focused on the red fish plan today. We made our way North again to a series of oyster bars and waited on the tide. Even though there was a stiff East wind, the approaching full moon tide made its way in. The the mullet start eventually jumping and came schooling by us and the red fish soon followed. We caught a couple keepers, a small one and then a couple got the best of us. A comfortable day on the water and I thank you for the great time... Capt. Dan

Yesterday the reds did not want to play, but today, they were hungry for a shrimp. I had a solo charter today and Mrs. Linda joined me out of Crystal River for a 1/2 day charter. We ran a little ways North and worked some of the oyster bars on the incoming tide. It took a bit for the tide to turn with the steady East wind, but by 11am it was just right. The mullet were happily jumping and the reds were right there underneath. Linda did a fine job catching a couple beautiful red fish to make her trip a success. i thank you for the fun day and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Reds, Gags & Trout...

A fine catch today out of Homosassa and we had the big three. I has Clell and Lee on board out of Macrae's and I gave them a great ride through the Little Homosassa and made our way to a couple red fish points. The guys did good on the red fish considering we had a falling tide. A couple slot red fish, and a few in the lower teen's got the day started and free lined live shrimp from Blue Water Tackle did the job. We left the inshore scene, caught a couple dozen pin fish and made our way offshore. To grassy to troll, so we bottom fished and added a couple quality sized gags to the day. We almost beat the rain in, but pulling up to Macrae's, we got poured on. A fun day and I always look forward to fishing with you guys... Capt. Dan

Busman's Holiday!!!

Just a fun day with my good friend Capt. Clay Shidler and we had our selves a Crystal River slam. My boat is getting detailed for a couple of days and Clay also had the day off; so he called me and said "lets' go fishing". I met him at his house on the river, loaded up his dog Nick and we hit the creeks. We spent the morning way back in Ozello and this young man took me to a couple places I haven't seen in many years. We targeted the various rocky shorelines and points with top water plugs and lucky enough, we caught a couple red fish, a trout and a snook. A fun time exploring, catching a few fish and we ended our day with the best chicken wings in town at Lollygaggers Sports Pub & Grill. Here's a fantastic picture of Clay and Nick with a Ozello red fish... Capt. Dan

Team Reel Adrenaline...

A fantastic day out of the Plantation on Crystal River and I had some special guests on board. I had the husband and wife team of Reel Adrenaline energy drinks on board and they had a day. Steve and Amber did a great job from a variety of species on the rock piles to jigging up a fine catch of trout. The bite was great all day and even though it was a little bumpy in the morning, the afternoon calmed down nicely. Live shrimp on the rock piles brought in the snapper, grunts, jacks and grouper. While the Mirrolure Lil' Johns tackled the trout, sea bass, cobia and blue fish. On the way home, I made a quick stop in the Salt River and Steve added a fine red fish to end the day. I thank you all for great time and please give Reel Adrenaline energy drinks try. They taste great and keep you going strong through out the day... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Variety & Hot....

What a hot one on the big pond today.... I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club with my great friend Capt. Mark Zorn and we fished the Maddox party out of Homosassa. I had Dr. Coco and Mr. Maddox for the day the day and we made our run west to the rock piles to get the day going. Steady action with snapper, grunts, grouper and mackerel filled the cooler and the Hank Brown jig heads with a live shrimp did the trick. The guys had a cooler full of assorted goodies, so we made our way back inshore with the incoming tide and found a couple nice red fish. Back inshore, it was a hot one with hardly any breeze, but we toughed it out and had a wonderful day. Here's our end of the day shot and I thank you all for the fun day... Capt. Dan

A special day with old time clients and excellent fishing. On today's charter myself and Capt. Mark Zorn fished the Homosassa Fishing Club, but we brought the guys up to Crystal River for a change of scenery. I had John and Carter on board and Carter is a legend in his own right and has been fishing these water for over 70 years (you should here how the fishing in this area used to be). It was a treat for me to show him the Crystal River area and we had a ball. To start the day, I made a run offshore to some of my favorite rocks and the grunts, mackerel and snapper fishing was non stop. John caught a surprise catch I don't see everyday and actually brought aboard two trigger fish to add to the species list. With a cooler "full" of fish, we spent the afternoon working the creeks and landing some really hefty back country red fish. Free lining live shrimp around the rocky points did the trick and the guys had a wonderful day. Here's Carter with today's big red fish and I thank you for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Reds...

A couple over slot reds were the stars for today's Crystal River charter and we had a some keepers to along with them as well. I had Mario, Richard and Rick on board today and the red fish were on the feed. We caught fish on various points, sight fished a couple and even pick a 30" beauty out of a school. Free lined live shrimp was the bait of choice for the majority of the fish, but the sight fished reds we caught were on jigs. After the red fish action, I took the guys to some of the shallow water rocks to try their luck at spearfishing a grouper. We saw a couple small ones, but the visibility wasn't the best so we called it a day. I thank you all for good time and here's Richard with one of today's big reds... Capt. Dan

Labor Day Reds...

Back on the big ones and today's crew caught some beautiful red fish. I had Kit, Rob and Paul on board out of Pete's Pier Marina and we spent the majority of the day targeting red fish. Running from point to point and working various rocky shorelines in the creeks, the guys did great. Free lined live shrimp was the bait of choice and all the reds today were slot fish - plus a couple well over the 30" mark. Blackened red fish is whats for dinner for the team and I thank you all for the fun time. Here's Paul with the first red fish of the day, a hefty back country Crystal River red... Capt. Dan
