Crystal River Mixed Bag...

Great trout action today on the DOA deadly combo rigs out of Crystal River and Mike and Tom had a really good catch. I met the guys at Pete's Pier Marina at 8am and we ran a ways south and set up our drifts in the 4ft to 6ft depth range. The bite was steady on the out going tide, but when the tide turned for the afternoon incoming, it was quite slow for us. Before we called it a day, we hit a couple points for red fish and only found one lonely keeper to end out trip. Thanks guys for the fun time and congratulations on the fine catch... Capt. Dan

I had a very fun couple from Ohio on board today, and Mike and Nancy were ready to experience a 1/2 day charter out of Crystal River. A pleasant coolness in the air, from a slight cool front last night made our initial offshore run refreshing. The weather man was wrong again and the 15 mph winds predicted, were none existent. Using DOA deadly combo rigs and MirrOlure Lil' Johns, we caught several trout, sea bass, lady fish etc... and even a bonus sheepshead. A great time and good laughs, I thank you both very much... Team Homosassa....

Myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, Charlie Harris and Jody Johnson had the pleasure of fishing the Spearman party today out of the Homosassa Fishing Club. This is always a fun group and I had Matt, Brad and Bran on board for the day. My group had a nice catch of trout and a couple sea bass fishing offshore and inshore, while using a combination of DOA deadly combos and MirrOlure Lil' Johns. There was a separate big red fish pot for the day and Capt. Harris was the only one today to score a couple beautiful  Homosassa Reds for his clients. I thank you all for the great time and here's the entire group with their fantastic catch... Capt. Dan

Yes, today's that funny day April 1st and we all enjoy a good laugh for April fools day. However, it was all business today out of Homosassa with Butch and Paul on board and we were on a mission to keep on the hot trout bite. Leaving from Macrae's just before 8am, we ran out the Little Homosassa and began the day jigging our way to a cooler full of trout. It was a bit of a slow start for the first part of the day with only a couple short trout and several lady fish on the end of our lines. Not to worry though, the guys got in the rhythm and the keeper trout soon followed. Using primarily MirrOlure Lil' Johns in the root beer color, we put a great catch of trout in the boat and also had a busy day with an assortment of other species. I thank you both for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again in the future... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout...

A fine day at the Homosassa Fishing Club with my good friend and fellow Homosassa Guides Association member Capt. Mark Zorn, and we had a wonderful day fishing the Turman party. John, Richard and Lewis were on board with me and we spent the day jigging up some beautiful Homosassa trout. It was the same pattern as the last couple charters, using root beer colored MirrOlure Lil" Johns and DOA shrimp around the spotty bottom areas. A very pleasant South wind made great long drifts and the usual mixed bag of sea bass, lady fish, mackerel, blue fish, grouper, etc... makes the day fun. It's always a great time when this group is in town and look forward to your future visits... Capt. Dan

Another outstanding day out of Crystal River and my good friend and fellow Homosassa Guides Association member, Captain Rick Spratt joined me for a full day charter fishing the Killebrew party. I had Bob, Brad and Greg on board and both our boats teamed up and had an excellent trout catch along with some Spanish mackerel and sea bass for a mix. Making long drifts over various spotty bottom areas and using root beer colored DOA shrimp and MirrOLure Lil' Johns, the trout once again couldn't resist these go to baits. We had a little bit of down time between tide changes and the slick calm conditions, but when the sea breeze kicked in, so did the trout. I want to thank everyone for a great time and job well done on the impressive catch... Capt. Dan

If you could pick a perfect day for targeting trout, today would have been the day. Mike, Vickie, Page and Lori were on board for a full day out of Crystal River and with specific orders for fish for a big family fish fry, I was on a mission to find them. We ran a little ways offshore and using a combination of DOA deadly combos when the wind was calm and MirrOLure Lil' John jigs with a chop on the water, the trout were definitely on the feed. The root beer color was the color of the day and if I remember right, we didn't catch a fish on any other color but root beer.  We had some beautiful gator trout mixed in as well, with a couple in the 22" to 24" class to really set the bar high for the day. It was some great action between the hundreds of lady fish, trout, sea bass, and a couple gag grouper; I can't thank you all enough. Here's today's crew with their awesome catch and look forward to seeing you next time your here in Florida... Capt. Dan

Crystal River 1/2 day Sheeps...

A fantastic 1/2 day charter out of Crystal River today and Daryl, Steve, Dylan and Ryan experienced a very good sheepshead bite. We left from Pete's Pier Marina just after 7am to get a jump on the incoming tide and find some sheepshead. The sheepshead are still spawning in good numbers, but as this month ends, they will be migrating farther offshore and we'll be seeing them next winter. Back to today's trip; we anchored up on a couple ledges dropping to 25ft and even though the annoying algae bloom is occurring, the sheepies were still on the feed. The guys had some great action and a little variety including grouper, sea bass, sand perch, grunts and porgies. Around noon we called it a day and I can't thank you all enough for such a fun time. Here's the family with their catch, Great job!... Capt. Dan

Mackerel Invasion!

Outstanding Spanish mackerel action continued for us today out of Crystal River and Bill, Len and Mel had some great drag burning fights. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina at 8:30am, we made our run offshore to some hard bottom areas and tried our luck for some sheepshead. We caught a couple under slot sheepshead and numerous sea bass while we waited for the tide to turn, so we could anchor up and chum in the macks. Around 11am the tide was running hard, so we put out the chum bag, free lined some live shrimp and it was fish on. The mackerel bite was so fast and furious, we had to catch our breath a couple of times to keep from wearing out. Along with the mackerel, we picked up one beautiful sheepshead, some porgys and grouper to give a little variety to the day. Thank you guys as always for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore Sheeps

Wow, what a day! Skip, Chuck and John joined me for a full day out of Crystal River and running down some sheepshead. With hardly a ripple on the gulf, we loaded up, ran to some of my favorite grouper ledges and the sheepshead were there. The water is crystal clear right now in the 20ft range and it's quite a sight seeing all the different species of fish swimming around on all the various structures. We stopped on about a dozen locations and caught over 60 sheepshead along with some beautiful gag grouper, sea bass and numerous grunts. This was a big catch today and I only take a couple off each location, but please know, we safely released twice as many as we kept to be caught again. I did make a tackle change from the 1/8th oz Hank Brown jig head to a 1/2 oz knocker rig, due to the deeper water and it worked perfect. A great day with some great clients; I thank you all for the outstanding charter. Here's the crew with today's impressive catch... Capt. Dan
