Homosassa Rainy Reds....

So much for the 40% chance of rain today and we got soaked. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club today fishing the Scott party with my good friends Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, Clay Shidler and Jonathan Hamilton. Riland, Chip and Bill were with me for the day and with a good morning incoming tide, we found some red fish. The action was very good on the outer points using free lined live shrimp and we had a double digit day. The guys caught some nice lower slot red fish and then we had to run from the rain storms the rest of the day. All the other boats did good as well and I thank the entire group for the fun time... A beautiful day with great clients and friends. Mishel & Earl joined me once again out of Crystal River for fish catching day. Grouper was on the menu and we anchored up on one of my favorite shallow ledges in 12ft of water and sent down the baits. The bite was on immediately and in short order we put a couple fine gags in the box, a couple break offs and a pair of fun size cobia. I could feel it was time to give trolling a try, so we ran out a few more miles and put out the plugs. Mishel caught a fine pair of a gag grouper to top off their limit and on the way back to shore; she added a hefty 34" red fish to end the day. A great time as always and I thank you both again... Excellent grouper action just a ways offshore and once again, I had the weather to head West. Bob, Nancy, Bill and David joined me for the day and after a quick stop to catch a red fish, we ran offshore. The mangrove snapper and grunts started our day and the bite was quite good with some fine snapper bending the rods. Live shrimp on Hank Brown jig heads were the baits of choice and they always produce well. The seas were calming and we headed to some low profile rocks I haven't been to in a while and did great. The bite started out slow, but as the tide picked up the gags lit up. The team caught a fine catch of grouper and what a great day. I thank you all for the fun time and look forward to seeing you next time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Sight Fishing....

I fired up the silver king skiff today and Ray and I did some sight fishing. Today's conditions were perfect for looking for tailing red fish and with a 11am low tide, we poled the flats. We hit the mouth of the river just before 9am, made our run and I hoped on the poling platform. The tide was way low and the red fish had dropped off the shorelines and on the shallow flats. Ray did a fine job catching a couple lower slot red fish on spoons and we had the hook pull on a bruiser that was tailing on the back of a sting ray. A surprise snook again grabbed the spoon off the point of an exposed oyster bar and they are always a welcomed catch. A fun day and I always enjoy poling around and trying to sight fish a few fish... Homosassa Mix...

A big mix today in Homosassa and we had a slam and then some... I had the pleasure of having Tony, Donna, Chris and Beth on board and we caught the whole spectrum. Trout on DOA deadly combos began our trip just off the keys, but I'll tell you the water is extremely dirty from the high winds from the previous days. With a couple trout in the box, we made a run to the rocks and the water clarity was even worse. I had to fish off my numbers, mark the rocks and fish accordingly. The snapper and grunt bite was great though and a couple grouper kept us busy as well. To end the day on the incoming tide, we hit the outer keys and caught some fine red fish to top off the day. A great day and it was good to see some nice weather again. Thank you all for the great time and here's Chris and Beth with a Homosassa snook... Capt. Dan

Offshore Surprises....

A big group today out of the Plantation on Crystal River with fellow Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, Clay Shidler, Zach Hoffman and Kelly Kofmehel. We had the pleasure of fishing the ATS company and they did awesome. Great catches of red fish, snook, grouper, Spanish mackerel, black drum, flounder and grunts were brought back to the dock. My team did great with some red fish, a limit of mangrove snapper and a couple offshore surprise snook to fill out the day. A great day for the entire group and I thank you all for the fantastic day.... Capt. Dan

Hello Sunshine....

An awesome mixed bag today out of Crystal River with Jason and Deanna on board and it sure was good to be in the sunshine. I picked up the couple at the Plantation on Crystal River and we began the day targeting red fish. Our first stop produced four nice keepers and then the dolphins showed up and shut us down. With a fine of red fish on live shrimp, we made our way west and anchored down on some ledges. Grunts, mangrove snapper, lady fish and mackerel kept us busy while we sent down live shrimp on knocker rigs. The action was great, but I wanted to try a favorite spot to add a grouper to the mix. So, we made a couple mile run and found the gags. The grouper bite was excellent and we were able to turn three fine keepers,  plus a couple got the best of us as well. A fantastic day with finally some great weather - I thank you both for the great time... Capt. Dan

2 Hour Reds....

A shortened trip today due to the weather of course, but we were able to get a couple hours in. Tommy and Rodney were on board with me for the day and even though the forecast wasn't good, we gave it a try. I stayed close to the salt river area with storms on the horizon and we caught three nice keepers red fish, some shorts and a handful of snapper on a couple stops. Free lined live shrimp around the points were our baits of the day and it sure was good to be back on the water - even though it was just for a short amount of time. I'm hoping the weather pattern changes soon and thank you both for a fun morning... Capt. Dan

Water spouts & Red fish....

We had to go to plan B today and our original goal of grouper fishing just wasn't going to happen. I had Jeff, Manny and Jeff of board in hopes of digging up some gags. We made it to the bait stop and filled the live well with pin fish, but the storms built quickly and some had a few water spouts. So, we left the outside and hid in the back country and free lined live pin fish on the rocky points. The guys caught a couple fine mid slot reds to make the day a success and we called it a day after the tide topped out. Thank you all for the fun time and look forward to doing it again soon. Here's Manny with a salt rive red fish that couldn't resist a live pin fish.. Capt. Dan

1/2 Day Reds...

A nice 1/2 day Crystal River Charter with Bo and Josh on board and these young guys did fine. We shoved off from Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am and made our way south. With fished the Fish Creek area and free lined live shrimp in the mullet schools and found some red fish. The guys caught a couple keepers and a few under slot reds to fill out the morning. I made a couple drifts on some deeper grass patches for some trout, but only came up with one keeper and several shorts. It was calm conditions and we just weren't covering any water. Still, we had a great time and thanks again guys... Capt. Dan
