Homosassa Trout, Reds & Gags....

Day two today with the Carter party at the Homosassa Fishing Club and we headed south to target some trout. Our first stop though, was off St. Martin's keys to tackle some red fish. I had Ronnie and Jane on board and the couple made four cast and had four keepers. Yes folks, it was that good and we put up the red fish rods. For a change of scenery, I ran south of the "Chazz" channel and with DOA deadly combos in hand; the team caught some fine trout. The bite wasn't super hot, but we caught a keeper or two on each drift. The seas slicked off to glass and to end the day, we plugged up a couple shallow water gags to top off our charter. I thank you both for a wonderful time and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

A great day at the Homosassa Fishing Club fishing the Carter party and I had Dave and Libby on board. We had a 12:30 shore lunch on schedule for the day, so we got as much fishing in as we could. The tide was good for some morning red fishing and we hit the keys, free lined some shrimp and the team put three nice slot red fish on ice. The tide soon dropped out and we gave trout fishing a try, but the bite was slow and we only produced three keepers. With 15 minutes left to fish, I hit a shallow cave I haven't been to in a while and we pulled a hefty 12lb gag grouper out of it. What an awesome fish to catch in 3ft of water and it sure was good at our shore lunch. A fun day with a good variety of fish in just a couple hours of fishing - I thank you both for the fun time... Trolling Gags & Red Fish....

We beat the rain back at the dock just by minutes today and the morning action was "AWESOME". Don and Mike joined me today out of Crystal River and we left Pete's Pier Marina just before 8am. I had the trolling rods ready and usually by the 20th of September if the floating grass isn't to bad - it's time to troll. "My favorite way to target gags". We set out the plugs and worked various hard bottom areas and did very well. The first fish was a hefty 17lber and the others were good quality gags. After the guys trolled up their limit, I ran to the back country and free lined some live shrimp to add some red fish to the mix. A great day and I thank you both for the fun time... Capt. Dan

It has been a fun week fishing the Maddox party at the Homosassa Fishing Club and sadly, today was the last day. John and John were on board with me for the day and we hit a couple spots for red fish to get the day going. We found a keeper and a couple shorts, but I really wanted to find at least one more grouper for the guys to take home. I made a short run to a shallow ledge, anchored up and chummed with some thread fins. It took a little while and the bite was slow to get going. Finally, the grouper woke up and we had a break off, a couple shorts "a surprising red grouper" and a fine keeper gag before we had to be back at the dock at noon. A great couple days and I look forward to seeing you all next year... Capt. Dan

A really good day out of the Homosassa Fishing Club with Dr. Coco and John for a day of battling grouper and red fish. Today's trip began targeting red fish on the outer keys using a combination of cut lady fish, pin fish and live shrimp. The red fish bite was good and the guys caught five nice keepers and a few shorts for the morning hours. As the tide dropped out, I made a run to a ledge in 11ft of water and put out a spread of thread fin herring for some grouper. It didn't take long and we were battling some heavy weight gags and the guys did awesome. A fun day and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Reds before the Rain...

Well, our full day trip was cut short to a 1/2 day Homosassa Charter, due to the rain storms. Today I had the pleasure of fishing long time Homosassa Fishing Club members John Maddox and Carter Smith. These gentlemen have been fishing here their entire lives and you should here the stories of the "good old days". The guys did well today and caught half a dozen red fish with three fine keepers for a couple hours of fishing. Unfortunately, the weather got bad, so we called it a day. I thank you both for the fun time and we'll see you soon... Capt. Dan

Seafood Platter....

A fine mixed bag today and a great family to enjoy it. Hunter, Patrick and Phillip joined me today out of the Plantation on Crystal River for a day of bending the rod. I had a nice "much needed" weekend off to rest up for another long stretch and today, I was ready to go get them. Targeting some red fish on the outer keys on the outgoing tide started our day and the young boys each caught a keeper before the water dropped out - and then headed offshore. The shallow rocks were on fire with plenty of snapper, grunts, small gags and four nice keeper flounder kept us busy through out the day. A fun time and I thank you all for the great trip. Here's Hunter with one of our beautiful Crystal River flounder.. Capt. Dan

Back on the Trout....

A very fun day with some great friends and clients of mine, Bill and Nell. This was Bill's birthday trip and he did fantastic. Today's Crystal River charter began on the shallow ledges catching mangrove snapper, small gags and grunts. The husband and wife team put a fine eating catch in the cooler and Bill asked about giving trout a try. I said the trout bite hasn't been all that good from what I've heard, but we'll give it a try. Well, as luck would have it, we made a drift in the 7ft range and caught some fine keeper trout. Watermelon/red flake colored Lil' John's were the baits of choice and they were working fantastic. To finish up the day, the tide was just turning afternoon and we had just enough water to squeeze out a keeper red fish to end the charter. A really good day and I thank you both as always for the fun time... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Reds....

A stellar day on the points for red fishing today and Amanda, Alyse and Tom did very well. We left Pete's Pier Marina just after 8am and made our way to the keys. The tide was just turning and it was quite shallow on the first spot. I did see a large school of red fish rise up, but I couldn't get to them in the big boat "I needed the silver king".... We were patient and as soon as the tide was right, we started catching some fine red fish. We totaled close to twenty red fish today with a couple over slot fish, some fine keepers and a few smaller upcoming stars. Live shrimp was the bait of the day and other than dodging a couple rain storms - it was perfect. I thank you all for the great day and here's the crew with Tom's big red fish of the day... Capt. Homosassa Reds....

A good tide and happy Homosassa Reds. It was day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club with the Scott party and the red fishing was fantastic. The whole group today did extremely well, and all the boats had double digit catches. The majority of the red fish were under size, but we all had a fine catch of keepers. My team of Blake Sr. & Jr. and Dudley, did great with seven nice slot fish and numerous little guys through out the morning. We pulled the anchor at 12:30 and finished up the afternoon with a great shore lunch. Two fun days of fishing and I thank you all for the great time... Capt. Dan
