Crystal River Mix...

A good mix in species today in Crystal River and we caught the first cobia of the season. I had Henry, Rich and John on board for the day and we began the day with a red fish on the line. The tide was running out hard so we couldn't stay to long, but did catch a nice keeper, a short and had a bruiser cut us off. For the rest of the day we targeted trout, mackerel and caught a bonus 31" cobia. The cobia wasn't quite a keeper, but it sure was good to see one. A really fun day and I thank you all for the great time.... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Inshore...

A good mix today in Homosassa with Ray and his wife on board and we had a great day. I had a little bit of tide to work with for the morning hours to luck in to some red fish. We did well on the red fish and caught seven on MirrOlure MIrrOdines, but all were on the short side. However though, when the tide turned, the trout bite picked up and the action was pretty good on the rock bars off "Chazz". The team caught some fine trout and all were caught on DOA glow jerk baits. A really fun day and I thank you both for the great day... Capt. Dan

Homosassa at its Best...

What a day at the Homosassa Fishing Club fishing the O'Kelly party and the day couldn't have been better. Myself and my good fellow Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt and William Toney had quite the day on the trout, red fish and some mackerel. My crew did outstanding jerk baiting some skinny water trout around "Chazz," once the tide came in. We fished around the rock bars and in three short drifts, we had 15 beautiful trout in the box. The entire group did outstanding and I thank everyone for the wonderful day... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout & Reds...

The beautiful weather continues here on the Nature Coast and the Taylor family had a blast. We spent the morning hours tackling some trout, but the bite was slow for us today. Quite a bit of time in between trout bites, but we did manage five nice keepers for the morning hours. However though, the afternoon red fish bite was excellent. Andrew had the hot rod and caught over twenty red fish on one point and did great. Free lined live shrimp under a DOA deadly combo cork did the trick for the red fish. I thank you all for the fun time and I look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout & Reds...

This is the weather we live for here in Florida! I had the pleasure of fishing Joe and Joanne out of Macrae's on the Homosassa River and they did great. We fished both the near shore rock piles and the skinny water for the trout today. DOA glow jerk bats and bourbon MirrOLure Lil' Johns were the trout flavors of the day. The tide made pretty good water later in the day and we caught a few red fish casting soft plastics along the shorelines. I thank you both for the great time and I always look forward to our days on the water... Capt. Dan

Trout-Masters Tournament...

Well, it has been since 2010 since I fished the trout masters tournament and today was a fun day. I had the pleasure of fishing with friend Jeremy Cates, who actually won a 1/2 day charter I donated and decided to use it for the tournament. I was in tournament mode and we runned and gunned from spot to spot. As you "ALL" know, I've mainly been sheepshead fishing due to the cold temperatures, but spring is on its way and the trout are due to show up and turn on. We found some nice keeper fish here and there, but I did have to move around quite a bit. The nice surprise of the day was the variety of species we caught as a by-catch which was excellent. We took second place out of 41 boats and had a great time. I thank you for the great day and look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Sight Casting Reds...

A really great 1/2 day trip for this super bowl Sunday and Kyle and Chris had a blast. We began the trip today jigging some trout along the rock bars and picked up a pair of keepers to start the day. That was it though for the trout action and we moved around quite a bit, but there were no more to be found. The gusty South wind had the tide rolling in very good and we had plenty of water to hit the outer creeks and find some red fish. We staked out in a rocky cove pocket and were watching the red fish swim with the mullet school. We pitched a free lined a live shrimp and had to wait for them to settle; but the guys soon landed a couple beautiful over slot fish to end the day. I thank you both for the great time and look forward to seeing you again... Capt. Dan

Red on the Fly...

Kind of a last minute outing today with my good friend Capt. Jonathan Hamilton and he took me in the Homosassa backcoutry for a couple hours. It's just been to windy to take my clients out to the winter sheepshead grounds and unfortunately, I've been off the water because of the conditions. Today though, Jonathan and I were going stir crazy to say the least and we had to go for a boat ride. We ran his Maverick skiff though the Mason creek area and we're able to pole down a shore line out of the wind. I was lucky enough to put the fly in front of a couple red fish and one of them cooperated nicely. It's actually been quite a while for me to connect with a red fish on the long rod and thanks bud for a fun couple hours. Next time, you're on the front of the boat... Capt. Dan

River Reds...

A very good 1/2 day charter this morning with Eric and Josie on board and this father and daughter team did great. I picked up the family at the Plantation on Crystal River just after 8am, and we had fish on; right out of the gate. The jacks and lady fish were harassing the bait fish in the bay and we immediately had hooks ups. Always fun to pull on both species, but we left them and headed on down the river. I anchored on one of my favorite river rock piles in the river and the red fish were on fire. We caught numerous red fish with just a shrimp on a jig head. While most were shorts; we had some keeper sized too. To end the day, we topped off the trip with some fine sized sea bass on a shallow rock and then headed back to the dock. I thank you both for the great day and enjoy the rest of your vacation... Capt. Dan

It was blowing straight out of the south, but it brought the water in and we had a great afternoon red fish tide. I had Marty and Collin on board for an afternoon red fish trip and the father and son team did great. We jumped around from the North shore off Crystal River, to some of the oyster bars in the Salt River. We hit a couple spots with no fish and some with a few on them had some fine keepers to show for our efforts. Free lined live shrimp under a DOA deadly combo cork was the bait of the day and the guys had a great time. I thank you both and I look forward to seeing you in the future... Capt. Dan
