Crystal River Slam....

Tough conditions for us today and what it ever windy. I had Sunny on board for the day and she was ready to catch a few fish. I had grouper in mind, but with the weather; it wasn't going to happen. We stayed inshore and actually caught a Crystal River slam. Snook in river and trout, red fish and a hefty sheepshead on the flats. The SW wind was gusting extremely strong, but we toughed it out and had a fun day. I thank you for the great time and look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout & Reds...

Day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club and today Duke and Gail were my guests. We loaded up just after 8am and made our way Homosassa-South. We worked the shallow kelp grass beds again and caught some really large trout. We boated five, but three of them were over 20". DOA glow shrimp deadly combos were the baits of choice. The tide started rolling in and we made our way North to fish some of the outer keys for red fish. Duke caught a real nice keeper, but the other six were all a little short on one end. A fun day and I thank you all for the great couple of days. Here's Gail with a fine Homosassa trout... Capt. Dan

In the Woods....

A great couple hour trip with my good friend Capt. Randy Hodges and we were deep in the "woods", looking for some red fish. I haven't ran my skiff in some time due to the fantastic grouper action, but it was great to be back in it. We poled the far East side of Ozello and went three for six on red fish. Baby bass colored jerk bats were the baits of choice, we took a few pictures and released them. Thanks bud for a fun morning and look forward to doing it again soon... Capt. Dan

The Homosassa Fishing Club gang was in town and I had the pleasure of fishing David, John and Joe for an outstanding Homosassa mixed catch. Myself and Captains William Toney, Jim long, Rick Spratt and Don Chancey were fishing the Euart party and it was beautiful day. My crew began the day casting plugs to the shallow rocks and we turned five really nice keeper gags to start the day. David had big fish honors with one at 13lbs which gave him an outstanding fight. We left the grouper area and made our way to the trout flats and added a couple keeper trout for the mid day hours. DOA deadly combos loaded with bourbon colored Lil' Johns did their job once again. To end the day, we hit the keys and a nice pair of red fish ended our day. I won the big fish pot and Capt. William Toney won big red fish, so we split the pot and each of us came home with a few extra $$$. A great day and I thank you all for a fun time... Capt. Dan

Back to the inshore scene today with Brian, Roy, Janet, and Dana and we caught some beautiful red fish. I haven't seen this group in a while with Brian and Janet visiting from Maine and Roy and Dana visiting from Texas. I'm glad they were here and it's always a fun day on the water with them. We left from Pete's Pier Marina and with a great incoming tide, we went looking for some red fish. The red fish were very happy today and we had a double digit day, with a couple of them well over the slot. Free lined live shrimp was our bait of choice. The trout action still wasn't on fire; but we added five nice keepers to the cooler to ensure a nice fresh fish dinner being prepared Oysters in Crystal River. A great October day on the water and I thank you all for the wonderful time. Here's yours truly and Janet with her big red fish of the day.. Capt. Dan

Homosassa Morning Reds...

Flat calm condition's again on the big pond and it sure was a pretty day. It was day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club with the Turman party and red fish was our main target species for the morning. John, Jimmy and Richard were on board with me and we found a couple nice red fish to start the day. We saw a good school and caught a perfect 27" fish, a 28" over slot and 3 little ones to added to our red fish catch. The tide was dropping out and I wanted to add some trout to the mix. Well, trout fishing up until noon was nonexistent and we only encountered a couple short fish before our 1pm shore lunch. It was the same story across the board, but I'm sure when the sea breeze kicked in for the afternoon, the bite picked up. The lunch was fantastic and a couple great days are in the books. I thank you all for the fun time and here's John with one of today's red fish... Capt. Dan

Big change in the "grouper mood" over the last few days and they were back on the feed today. Jen, Matt and Helen joined me out of Crystal River for a full day charter and we loaded up on the grouper. The conditions were about the same as they have been with breezy in the morning, and then calming some in the early afternoon. We eased our way spot to spot and the 20ft range was the hot bite. The gang did great on the grouper and after we had our limit, we hit the Salt River area to find a red fish. The reds were spotty and I checked several shore lines before we found a couple. Finally, I saw a couple on the other side of an oyster bar and we sight fished a beautiful over slot fish to end the day. A perfect day and I thank you all for a great time. Here's today's crew with a fine catch of grouper... Capt. Dan

Reds on the Short Side...

We caught fish today, but they were all running a little short on one end. For today's Crystal River 1/2 day charter I had Gene and Linda on board and we tried our luck running down some red fish. The wind was not in our favor for us and with it gusting out of the NE, it definitely makes positioning the boat a challenge. We fished various oyster bars, rocky points and caught several small red fish, but none to take home for dinner. We still had a fun time and I thank you both for a great morning. Here's Linda with an up and coming Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

I think I'm still rockin' and rollin' as I type this report. It was a windy one on the big pond, but Mishel, Earl and Dan hung in there and we caught some good ones. Not being sure if I was going to be able to give grouper a try, so we stayed inshore, tucked inside the mangrove islands and found some red fish. No real big ones today, but two slot fish and a couple little ones to get our day started. All the red fish posed for a quick picture and we watched them swim away. The wind calmed ever so slightly and we trolled some shallow ledges to find a grouper. Well, we did great and everyone caught a keeper gag and even had a couple get the best of us. Rapala CD 14's were the plug of the day. Definitely tough conditions today, but everyone did great and i thank you all for the fun time. Here's Mishel with one of today's gag grouper... Capt. Dan

Very comfortable conditions on the flats today out of Crystal River and with out a doubt, we had a hint of fall in the air. I had Joanne and Joe on board for a 1/2 day charter and we had a good catch of trout and a hefty over slot red fish for the day. I covered some ground to find some red fish and on the last spot, we found one. I have a feeling this NE wind that's with us for the next couple days is going to change things a little bit; but the fish will get acclimated to the change soon. The trout action was good in about 3ft of water over the "yellow" bottom areas with kelp grass and bourbon MirrOlure Lil' Johns did their job once again. I thank you both as always for a great time and look forward to our next Crystal River Charter... Capt. Dan
