Homosassa Trout & Reds...

Day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club and today Duke and Gail were my guests. We loaded up just after 8am and made our way Homosassa-South. We worked the shallow kelp grass beds again and caught some really large trout. We boated five, but three of them were over 20". DOA glow shrimp deadly combos were the baits of choice. The tide started rolling in and we made our way North to fish some of the outer keys for red fish. Duke caught a real nice keeper, but the other six were all a little short on one end. A fun day and I thank you all for the great couple of days. Here's Gail with a fine Homosassa trout... Capt. Dan

Chazz Trout....

A picture perfect day out of Homosassa and I had the pleasure of having Georgia and Allen on board for a great day of trout fishing. I was at the the Homosassa Fishing Club with my best friends Capts. Mark Zorn, William Toney, Rick Spratt, Jonathan Hamilton and Jody Johnson. My crew had the hot rods and we caught some beautiful trout. We drifted the shallow kelp grass beds and DOA glow shrimp and bourbon colored Lil' Johns were the bait of choice. We were top boat today with 12 keeper trout before shore lunch, then finished off our limit with a quick 30 minute drift to end the day. I can't thank you all enough for the great day and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Chilly Trout...

Three layers deep this morning going out the river this morning and it was a chilly ride. Tom was with me for the day in the Silver King and we found some skinny water trout. The action wasn't fast, but we picked up a couple here and there. Glow DOA jerk baits over the shallow hard bottom areas was the bait of the day. Once the tide dropped out, we poled the flats and saw a couple red fish, but they were few and far between. A great time and I enjoyed spending the day with you. Here's Tom with the first keeper of the day on a DOA glow jerk bait... Capt. Dan

Cold Front Blues....

A slow one today and we kind of expected it with the big weather change and high winds. Phil was with me for his final day of a couple day fishing trip and I'm glad the conditions were much better on the first two trips. Today, for the most part, we tucked up in the river, caught a few small snook, lady fish, mangrove snapper and jacks. We made a drift out side the river for a couple trout and that was about it for the fishing action. I showed Phil the rest of the river and springs before we called it a day. A fun few days and I thank you for the great time. Enjoy all the fish and we'll see you next time... Capt. Dan

This will probably be the last offshore trip for a couple days with a gusty cold front approaching. I was so glad to get in today's trip with my great returning clients Doug, Aaron and Jake. Grouper was on the menu and we made our run to some shallow ledges and when the tide got right, we had our limit in a matter of minutes. Trolling Rapala X-raps did their job once again and the sweet spot for trolling has been 4.2mph lately. The guys did great catching a fine limit of grouper and we even released a few on a new honey hole I stumbled on. We ran back inshore, added a couple trout to the mix and called it a day. Great action and a great time - I look forward to seeing you all again soon... Capt. Dan

A foggy start to this mornings Crystal River Charter and Phil was back in town from Pennsylvania, ready to catch some fish. We began today's trip casting plugs on the shallow ledges and in just a matter of minutes, Phil had his limit of beautiful grouper. On our next stop, we anchored on the rocks and filled the cooler with a mixed bag of groceries for a few fish fry's for Phil to take home. The action was great and to top off the day, we drifted the shallow "yellow" hard bottom areas off the keys and topped off a fine limit of trout. It was as good as it gets today and I can't thank you enough for an excellent day. Here's Phil with quite the catch... Capt. Dan

The Homosassa Fishing Club gang was in town and I had the pleasure of fishing David, John and Joe for an outstanding Homosassa mixed catch. Myself and Captains William Toney, Jim long, Rick Spratt and Don Chancey were fishing the Euart party and it was beautiful day. My crew began the day casting plugs to the shallow rocks and we turned five really nice keeper gags to start the day. David had big fish honors with one at 13lbs which gave him an outstanding fight. We left the grouper area and made our way to the trout flats and added a couple keeper trout for the mid day hours. DOA deadly combos loaded with bourbon colored Lil' Johns did their job once again. To end the day, we hit the keys and a nice pair of red fish ended our day. I won the big fish pot and Capt. William Toney won big red fish, so we split the pot and each of us came home with a few extra $$$. A great day and I thank you all for a fun time... Capt. Dan

Back to the inshore scene today with Brian, Roy, Janet, and Dana and we caught some beautiful red fish. I haven't seen this group in a while with Brian and Janet visiting from Maine and Roy and Dana visiting from Texas. I'm glad they were here and it's always a fun day on the water with them. We left from Pete's Pier Marina and with a great incoming tide, we went looking for some red fish. The red fish were very happy today and we had a double digit day, with a couple of them well over the slot. Free lined live shrimp was our bait of choice. The trout action still wasn't on fire; but we added five nice keepers to the cooler to ensure a nice fresh fish dinner being prepared Oysters in Crystal River. A great October day on the water and I thank you all for the wonderful time. Here's yours truly and Janet with her big red fish of the day.. Capt. Dan

Homosassa Big Haul....

Quite the catch today out of Homosassa and myself and fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, William Toney and Rick Spratt had a good one. My crew was Lyle, Tom and Chuck and these gentlemen had a fine mixed bag of grouper, trout, sea bass, grunts and Spanish Mackerel. Slick calm seas made for easy running and we were able to do a little bit of everything. The other guides did fantastic with big mixed bag catches too and Capt. Toney did outstanding bringing in his limit of trout. It's always a special day when the fishing is this good and I thank you all for the great time. Here's the Turman party with an impressive day on the water... Capt. Dan

A comfortable day on the Nature Coast with Len, Karen and Bill being my guest for the day and we caught some fish. Leaving from Pete's Pier Marina at 8am, there was just enough tide to stop and hopefully find red fish or two. We pulled up to a key with plenty of mullet activity, a steady outgoing tide and found a couple small red fish. No keeper sized again, but fun all the same. The next stop was pulling out the cork rigs and finding a couple trout. The action was fair with trout, sea bass, lady fish, blue fish and several lizard fish. DOA deadly combos rigged with bourbon Lil' Johns put the keepers in the cooler. To end the trip, we tried a couple passes to troll up a grouper, but the floating grass on the inshore locations fouled the plugs and is here to stay until we get a good NE cold front or two. A fun day and I always enjoy fishing with you all... Capt. Dan
