Homosassa Day Two...

Day two for the Homosassa Fishing Club Jaboree and Nancy and Uhon were my guests. I had originally planned on going offshore to chum up some macks, but the pretty steady SW wind pushed in a little bit of tide and I was anxious to hit the keys for some trout. I set up a good drift on some hard "yellow" bottom and with glow DOA jerk baits on hand, the bite was great. In just a couple drifts, the team had their limit and even added a couple mackerel to the catch. A great couple days for this yearly event ( especially the oyster shore lunch today ) and I always look forward to seeing you all... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout......

Today was day one of the annual Homosassa Fishing Club Jaboree and what a fun day. I had the pleasure of having the husband and wife team of Ryland and Carol on board. Ryland and Carol worked the shallow rock bars and troughs out side the Little Homosassa River and found the trout. The Jaboree is an annual event with the club members and it's husband and wife teams. This was an eight boat party and some fine trout, mackerel, pompano and sea bass were caught. Myself and Capt. Rick Spratt tied for top boat honors with nine keepers before our afternoon shore lunch. The shore lunch was fantastic and what a great day on the Homosassa river. I thank all the club members and my good fellow Homosassa guides for the great time... Capt. Dan

Another fun trip offshore on the sheepshead grounds and the action sure was great. I had the please of having Jim, Andrew and Eric on board and they had a ball. We left from Pete's Pier Marina and made our initial run to about 17ft of water and anchored down. One stop was all it took and we loaded up on the sheepshead. The seas were great, with just a slow roll and it even calmed some for the ride in. The team put a excellent catch in the box to secure a great fish dinner while on vacation and plenty to take back home. We picked up a couple trout in the creeks to end the day and I thank you all for the great day... Capt. Dan

Tough Trout...

I guess I have to have one of those days when the fish get the best of you and today was definitely mine. I had a great couple on board, Jamie and Richard and we spent the day working for some trout. The heavy rains from Monday definitely cooled the water some and the steady NW wind made it a bit bumpy, but I just couldn't get anything going. From the North shore to St. Martins, I covered some ground. We picked up three keeper trout and lost a couple and that was it. There is always no guarantee and that's why they call it fishing ( but I like the catching, especially for my clients)... I thank you both for the fun time and look forward to seeing you again. Here's Jamie with one of the days trout.. Capt. Dan

This captains tired.... A windy one on the flats today, but we hung in there and caught some nice fish. I had the Desart party on board and these guys toughed it out. Sheepshead were the original plan, but the rough conditions kept us inshore. The team made several drifts inside the keys working the hard bottom flats and caught some quality keeper trout on DOA glow jerk baits. The full moon tide came rushing in and I made our way south to find some red fish. We got on a good school right away and caught a beautiful over slot fish, but the wind was blowing so hard it was difficult to get positioned right from then on. The guys ended the day with a couple more under slot reds and we did well for the tough conditions. I thank you all for the fun time and hanging in there fighting the wind. Here's Alec with a fine Crystal River red fish... Capt. Dan

"Sharks Football"....

I always like to give back to the community and I donate several charters to local organizations through out the year. Today's charter was for the youth "sharks football" league (which I used to play) and Mike and Adam were the lucky ones to win the charter. I was a bit worried with the late season cold front, but we made a day of it and caught a few fish. The guys started the day with several hard fighting jack crevelle and they for sure, put a bend in the rod. We boated about a dozen with one well over the 10lb mark and it gave up great fight. Our next stop was to find some trout. The sudden drop in temperature took a bit for the trout to turn on, but they eventually did. The team put some fine keepers in the cooler to secure dinner and a great day was in the books. I thank you both for the fun time and for supporting sharks football... Capt. Dan

Inside Trout....

The wind was up today with the approaching cold front, but the conditions were absolutely prefect for drifting the skinny water for trout. My dear great clients Joe and Joanne were on board and once the morning showers passed, we were on our way to the gulf. Today's trip we covered some ground from the North side of Ozello all the way to St. Martin's Keys. The trout were in small groups and we would pick up a couple here and there which made for a nice easy pace day. The hot bait was the DOA glow/holographic jerk bait and a couple on the MirrOdine. I thank you both for the memorable day and always look forward to our future trips... Capt. Dan

Crystal River at its Best....

What a day!!! An excellent group trip today with some of my best friends Capt's. Mark Zorn and Rick Spratt and we fished the Killebrew party. My team was Brad, Bob and Tim and we ran offshore for the day. Excellent sheepshead action, with the big fish of the year being caught weighing over 10lbs. The grouper were active as we landed several for catch and release photos and some bonus species. Brad caught a huge black drum and Bob landed a very cool trigger fish. The other boats did fantastic on trout, macks and a pompano. A really fun day and I thank you all for the great time. Here's the end of the day total, and the group is going to have one heck of a fish fry... Capt. Dan

Sheepsheadville....

The bite is excellent for the convict fish. What an awesome day offshore with Terry, Ryan and Roy and did we ever keep the rods bent. I ran back offshore once again to the sheepshead grounds and the action was fantastic. We kept a good dozen of fine sheepshead and released well over twenty, with most of them over the 5lb range. Perfect conditions made for a smooth ride, but no triple tail today. The team added a trout and flounder to the mix and a great day is in the books. I thank you all for the fun time and I always look forward to fishing with you... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Mix...

A great mix catch today with Rick, Joe and Mike on board and with the variety of species - these guys are going to eat great. We met at Pete's Pier Marina just after 8am and began our Crystal River Charter on the rocks. We targeted sheepshead and though the bite wasn't fast and furious; we caught a nice variety. Grunts, Spanish mackerel, grouper, sheepshead and sea bass kept our rods bent until the tide was right to run inshore and find some trout. The trout action was excellent in the creeks and using DOA jerk baits in the creeks - we quickly put a fine catch of trout in the box. A great day and nice variety, I thank you all for the great time... Capt. Dan
