Good Mix...

We covered some ground today with Ted, Brad and Curtis on board and the guys had a good one. The outgoing tide red fish bite started the day and we had a double digit morning. Most were little Cobb reds, but a couple keepers bent the rod and live shrimp did the trick. Next up, we drifted the flats and did very well on cork rigs again for the trout. Watermelon red flake Lil' Johns were the trout's preference today. We topped off the day with a nice gag grouper, mackerel, released a few others and great job today team... Capt. Dan

Hot Gags...

The first day of Fall and the first real good keeper gag grouper bite. Ed was the man today as he joined me out of Crystal River and he turned some really fine grouper. We anchored up, pitched out some pin fish and in less than 5 minutes, we had a limit of grouper. Very few shorts today and in the coming weeks, it's only going to get better. *** On a side note, I'm off to the great state of Maine for a week of Brook trout and Salmon fishing. I'm really looking forward to the NE Fall time of year and I'll see you all back on the big pond Oct. 2nd... Capt. Dan

Reds & Gags...

We went deep today folks and with flat calms sea's, we went all the way to 40ft. Jason was on board today and I generally do not venture quite that far offshore, but with the conditions as they were; we went for it. Grouper were on our menus and the bite was good with mostly short gags keeping us busy, but we eventually locked into some nice keepers. While offshore, the bonito were busting bait and we caught a couple of them as they screamed our drags. To finish up our day, we hit the keys for 1/2 a dozen red fish and it sure was a fun day. I thank you Jason and always look forward to next time... Capt. Dan

Team Fitzpatrick...

A terrific trip today with the Fitzpatrick husband and wife team, and they had a good one. We started the day with the first I've trolled for grouper this season and we caught a couple. Bright colored plugs out produced the naturals, but the floating grass is still an issue. We wrapped up the grouper and made our way inshore to a very good red fish bite. Free lined pin fish were the bait today and we had a double digit afternoon. I thank you both as always and I look forward to our next trip... Capt. Dan

Reds, Snook and Gags...

Back out for my second trip after the storm and we did just fine. Mishel and Earl were on board and the team had a really good day. Red fishing started our trip and on two stops, each of them caught some beautiful Crystal River red fish. While red fishing, we also picked up three snook as a fun bonus. Next up, we ran offshore and turned a couple keeper gags, The grouper bite was OK, with a couple big one's getting the best of us as well. Always a fun time with you both and I'll see you soon... Reds, Snook and Gags..

Day two with Pete and Jezze on board and we did a bit more fishing, then jumping in the water. Our day began trying to get a snook for opening day and we caught a few under slots, and yours truly actually lost two keeper slot fish; as they jumped up and shook the hook. We left the snook grounds as the bite slowed and ran to where I've been doing so well on red fish, and in no time the guys had a fine catch of red fish. To wrap up the day, we jumped in the water and shot a nice gag grouper on a little ledge, some mangrove snapper and mackerel to end the day. A fun two days and I thank you both for the fun time... Straight Hooks..

A bit of a different kind of trip today and with Pete and Jezze, while we did some spearfishing. It was a fun day and these guys jumped in on some rocks I've personally only fished and we learned what was going on down there. There is an overwhelming abundance of short gag grouper which is great, but we also saw some big boys and we're able to bring a couple home. There were lots of mangrove snapper and juvenile hog fish, which is also a sign for good things to come. A really fun time and enjoy the fillets... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Offshore...

A little choppy today, but a great day offshore with Tony, Todd and Tom. The guys were ready to play and they turned some fine gags. We fished the 20ft range and with only a couple break offs, the gags came on board. Turning these shallow water grouper makes the day and if you have the endurance to get them away from their structure, it can be very rewarding. The mangrove snapper, hog fish and macks kept us busy, while free lining live shrimp in between grouper bites. I thank you all and great job today team... Capt. Dan

Big Surprises...

What an awesome trip today... Danny and Christine were my guests and it was fabulous mixed bag day. The red fishing started our day and the team caught a fine limit of red fish, on the points with free lined live shrimp.  The seas were glass calm, so we headed West to the 28ft range. Well, while anchored up; we had some surprises and permit, grouper, snapper, grunts and mackerel filled out our day. The Permit were the big bonus as I've lived my entire life here on the water and have seen them from time to time, but today was my day to catch them - as we brought three to the boat. A day to remember and I can't thank you both enough for the great day... Capt. Dan

Tough Gags...

A very tough bite for us today with Marilyn and David on board, but we gave it our all. Grouper was the requested species of the day and we jumped around trying to find some keepers. Our rods were bent most of the day with short gags and we actually caught over twenty or so, but nothing in the 24" range our larger. The gulf water temperature is in the upper 80's and can make it hit and miss and today; the big ones got the best of us. Still some nice snapper and flounder secured a diner or two and I thank you both as always for the great time... Capt. Dan
