Trout & Reds.....

The O'kelly group was in town at the Homosassa Fishing Club and we had a full day with a fun bunch of guys. Bill and Craig joined me for the day and we found some beautiful skinny water trout. We fished on the hard bottom areas off the keys and DOA glow jerk baits and Deadly combos did the trick. We put 8 nice trout in the box and ended the day on the high tide, with a couple red fish. Craig caught a 31" beauty and the others were all on the short side. I thank you all for the great time and here's the big one from today... Capt. Dan

Chazz South, Family Day....

A cancellation for today's scheduled charter, but it worked out great because I was able to spend the day with my other half. I've been determined to learn more of the Chassahowitzka area and after sleeping in a bit, we did just that. We shoved off from Macrae's just after 9:30am and eased or way south. An absolute picture perfect day and the water was crystal clear. I eased in an area south of the Chazz channel and found some fine trout. There's some "scary" bottom down there for sure, but it was great to find some new territory to work on. DOA glow jerk baits and glow shrimp deadly combos were the baits of choice for our day down south. We took our time coming back home and I finished up giving Becky a great ride through Mason creek. Here's my copilot with a fine Chazz trout... Capt. Dan

West Party, Day Three....

The last day with the West party in town and today's charter was a morning of fishing and an afternoon shore lunch. I had Herbert, Bert and David on board and my team jigged up a couple offshore trout, macks and finished up back inside with some red fish. The lady fish invasion is in full swing and when your not getting a trout strike, you can bet a lady fish is soon to follow. The action is always fun out there this time of year and you never know what that next cast will bring. We had some tide to work with to find a red fish before we met at the island, but all the ones we encountered were on the short side. A fine shore lunch was in the books and I really enjoyed these couple days with you all. Here's David with a beauty of a Homosassa Spanish Mackerel... Capt. Dan

Chazz "Gator"...

It was day two with the West party and we picked up the gang at the Homosassa Fishing Club and made our way to the Homosassa flats. I had Lee, Jerry and Tommy for the day and we began our day making our way South of "Chazz" pt. We fished the shallow rocky flats and found a couple hefty trout to start our day. The first trout of the day was the big one and definitely got our day started right. With a couple big fish on board, we ran offshore to the shallow rocks to keep the rods bent steadily. We reached the 7ft range and did great with plenty of trout, mackerel, sea bass and numerous lady fish fro the afternoon. We had top boat honors with thirteen keeper trout to end the day and I thank you guys for the great time. Here's Jerry with a beautiful Chazz "Gator" trout.... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Nice Haul....

A great time with the West party out of Crystal River and myself and Capts. Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, Clay Shidler and William Toney had a blast. We picked up the group a little after 8am and made our way out. Some of the guides went North and some went South. The trout action was good from the outer spoil islands, the deeper spotty areas and inshore creeks. A fine mixed bag of species were brought to the dock and we all had a great time.... Capt. Dan

Veterans Trout & Reds....

A special day out of Crystal River with some great veterans and they enlightened me with some very memorable experiences. I had the pleasure of having the Wheeler party on board and Ronnie, Kathy, Katheryn and Jerry were my guests. The gang was in town for a convention at the Plantation on Crystal River and they wanted to catch a few fish while they were in town. We made a day of catching a few trout and red fish, while showing them the country from Crystal River to Homosassa. Free lined shrimp on the outer keys produced a couple red fish, while the DOA glow jerk baits on the shallow yellow bottom areas found the trout. The gang had a great time and really enjoyed the area. Here's Ronnie with a really nice Homosassa trout... Capt. Dan

Reds Saved the Day...

Still an off trout bite for me the last couple days, but a couple fine red fish saved the day. I had my great regular clients Clell and Lee on board for the day and we stayed inshore and fished the creeks, to the outer keys. With plenty of tide this morning to red fish due to the West wind, we ran south to one of my favorite points. The guys hooked up on a couple red fish to start the day and one was a hefty over slot fish. Free lined live shrimp was the bait of choice and we then spent the day trying for some trout. We found a couple keepers, but I worked "hard" for them. It was a bit to rough to go offshore to the deeper locations, but soon as the conditions are favorable - I'm heading West. I thank you both for the great day and here's Clell with today's big red fish... Capt. Dan

Today's team were the Fitzpatrick's on board and we had a good time covering some ground. We left the dock at 9am and made a day tracking down some trout. I ran from the North side of the county to the South, but the bite wasn't on for very long. We had a couple real nice keepers and a few shorts, but that was it. The gulf has cooled down to about 68 degrees and this may have locked them up a bit. However, the coming week looks good and warm, so the action should pick right back up. I had a fun time with you all and here's Elisha with a fine Crystal River trout... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Misty Reds....

Good to be back on the big pond, but definitely some weird weather today. The last three days have been extremely windy and rainy and unfortunately, I've cancelled these last few days. Mishel and Earl were on schedule for today, and even though today was dreary and cold for April, we gave it a try. With misty rain bands and a steady West wind, we had plenty of water to give red fishing a try. The team and I left from Pete's Pier Marina just after 10am and we hit the keys. Free lined shrimp around the rocky points did well for us today and we caught several red fish, sheepshead and trout. A couple of the red fish were mid slot fish and the usual shorts for this time of year, kept us busy as well. I'm glad we gave it a try and we did well. I thank you both as always for our time on the water and here's Earl with the big fish of the day... Capt. Dan

Out & In Before the Storm...

Not the conditions I was hoping for with Rich and Mandy on board again today, but we did make it out. This was a quick trip out to the keys, two drifts and then back to Pete's Pier Marina. There was an approaching rain squall line coming, but I wanted to make an effort with the little amount of time we had. We did have some action and caught four trout and a couple mangrove snapper, before we had to head for the hill. I thank you both and I enjoyed talking with you at the marina, as we watched the weather come rolling through... Capt. Dan
