Bonito Surprise....

Kind of a slow one for keepers today, but we had a bit of action with a little variety. Myself and Capt. Randy Hodges had the pleasure of having the Norton family for a fun day out of Crystal River. We ran offshore to the 8ft depth range and jigged up an assortment of species. Trout, sea bass, lady fish, Spanish mackerel and a bonus bonito filled out our day. Only a couple keepers though, while most of the trout were on the short side. Still, we had a fun time and I thank you all for the great day. Here's Steve with a drag screaming Crystal River Bonito... Capt. Dan

Sometimes you have to stick with the them to get them going and today we had to do just that. Sam and Sam Jr. were my guests once again and we made a day of casting jigs around the spotty bottom areas and near shore rocks. We stayed in the 6ft to 8ft depth range and did fine with a little mix in variety. DOA 1/8thoz jig heads loaded with cal shad tails and bourbon Lil' Johns were the baits today. Plenty of lady fish kept us busy as well as several under sized trout to keep our rods bent. A beautiful spring day and I thank you guys for the fun time. Here's the guys with today's catch... Capt. Crystal River Trout.

A picture perfect day on the Nature Coast and what an excellent day. I had the pleasure of having LouAnne, Royce and Bob on board and we did excellent on the trout. We began the day using DOA glow jerk baits on the shallow flats off the keys and put several nice keepers in the cooler on our first drift. The tide slowed a bit and so did the wind, so we headed west and worked the 8ft depth range and got back on the trout. Bourbon colored Lil' Johns did the trick and the team finished off their limit. I thank you all for the great day and I look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

What a fun day for myself and several other of the Homosassa Guides Association Guides and we had the pleasure of fishing some special guests. Operation Outdoor Freedom is an organization that organizes fishing trips for wounded warriors and allows them to have some great experiences. The Collins family were my guests and we won big catch honors and found some fine trout. We fished the shallow hard bottom areas with just off the keys and the DOA glow and glow/holographic 5.5" jerk baits were the baits of the day once again. I can't stress enough how productive these baits are this time of year and you anglers owe it to your self to give them a try. We ended our trip cooking a fine shore lunch with all the fixings and it was a pleasure having you all on board. Here's my crew with today's morning catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa at its Best!!!!

What an unbelievable day at the Homosassa Fishing Club fishing the Smith party and myself and fellow Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt, Jim Long, Jody Johnson and William Toney filled the boxes. Excellent trout action on the flats just off the keys and Glow DOA jerk baits across the board were the baits for the teams today. I had Matt, Robinson and Bill and my crew had a fine catch of sixteen trout and a red fish for the days total. Some other mixed species were brought in as well and what a beautiful spring day in Homosassa. Here's the entire father and son team group with an outstanding catch... Capt. Dan

Back to Work....

Hello everyone and it sure was good to be back fishing and I'm definitely feeling better. I had a couple down days with the flu and it hit me hard. I fished on one of them (Wednesday) with high fever and I'll just say "an upset stomach", but I hung in there and we caught a few trout and macks before I surrendered to get some rest. However, today I was back on my game and Matt and Steve had an excellent trip catching trout and red fish. We fished the skinny water with DOA jerk baits for the trout and free lined some live shrimp for the reds. A really good day out of Crystal River and thank you to the Plantation for being their hosts for a fun couple days... Capt. Dan

Offshore Trout...

It's just about that time, when you can run offshore a couple miles and find a mixed bag of fish. I had the Blood family on board and we did just that. I ran the guys out to about 6ft to 8ft of water and made some long drifts. The actions wasn't fast, but we found some trout, sea bass, blue fish and mackerel to kept us busy. MirrOlure Lil' Johns in the bourbon and root beer colors were the baits today. We left the outside and made our way inside to find some red fish. Only shorts again for us, but fun all the same. I thank you all for the fun time and look forward to see you again... Capt. Dan

An afternoon 1/2 day trip with Bryant, Cliff and Logan and we found a couple nice trout. We left the dock at noon and fished the late incoming tide. After yesterdays monsoon, I was glad to find some fish. We had a stiff NW wind to contend with, so we drifted inside the keys to find the trout. Glow DOA jerk baits were the bait of the day and we picked up a few under slot reds to end our trip. A fun time and I thank you all for the great afternoon... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Limit!!!

I wasn't sure how today was going to turn out with the weather predictions, but it ended up being a great day. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club with my great fellow Homosassa Guides Association Captains Mark Zorn, Mike Baize and Jonathan Hamilton and we fished the Calhoun party. John, Dennis and Phil were my guests for the day and we made a day targeting trout. The action was a slow steady "if that makes sense," and we picked up a couple keepers all day. DOA glow jerk baits were the hot bait of the day and from the outer keys to the mouths of the creeks; all produced equally. All the boats did well and I can't thank you enough for the great day. Here's my crew with a fine Homosassa limit of trout... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Snook....

A tough one today for big numbers of fish, but my ladies team caught a nice Crystal River slam. Ellie and Ellen were my guests for the day and this was their annual Black Diamond fishing tournament trip. The residents of Black Diamond golf community have a yearly tournament and the members hire guides to fish the tournament. I was lucky to have this ladies team and they did fine. The day was quite breezy and cold which made conditions tough, but I believe they secured the big fish prize with Ellen's monster snook. This one is going to be a tough fish to beat in the big fish category and I hope she wins the prize. A couple trout and small red fish also filled out the day and I can't thank you both enough for the fun time... Capt. Dan
