Having Fun... July. 14th 2011

P7140623Today's mission was to keep my new young friend Dakota hooked up on some fish. I met Gary, Rob and Dakota at Pete's Pier and with breezy conditions, we stayed close to shore and caught a mixed variety. Grouper, snapper, mackerel, sea bass, and grunts made for some fun action on the shallow ledges. We had a couple keeper snapper, sea bass and Dakota had a count of 24 fish for his day of fishing. We made a couple drifts for some trout and picked up three keepers and a couple shorts to finish out our 1/2 day Crystal River charter. The big news for the day, was when we had close to a 12ft tiger shark next to the boat for several minutes. This was by far the largest shark I've encounter here in my life time of fishing here off Citrus County. Thanks guys for the fun day and here is Dakota and his dad Rob with a double header grouper catch... Capt. Dan

Big Tide. July 13th 2011

P7130621Sometimes to much water can make the fishing a little tough and today we experienced just that. Bill, Mel and Glen met me at Pete's Pier for a 1/2 day Crystal River charter and once we reached the gulf, we had a stiff breeze coming out of the West. We stayed inshore and tried our luck for some trout, but only had a keeper and a handful of shorts for the first hour of fishing. The full moon is right now and between the wind and the major tide, we had some serious high water. We gave it our all and did catch a couple red fish, but only one made it in the slot. I always enjoy you guys on the boat and look forward to seeing you soon. Here's Glen with his Ozello red... Capt. Dan
P7120618We did the grand tour today and Chris, Mark and Ben got to see it all. I picked up the guys from their family rental, 1/2 way down the Crystal River and we started out the day on some great trout action. We fished inshore using DOA deadly combo rigs and caught several trout while we were waiting for the tide to get right for red fishing. Around 10am the tide was rushing in, so we hit the creeks and we fished from Mangrove Pt. off Crystal River to Sam Bayou off the Little Homosassa. The red fishing was a little tough, but the guys boated 8 reds and a couple keepers to fill out the day. I had a blast covering so much area, and it really was a fun day finishing it out with several more trout. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you again soon... Capt. Dan

The Last Few Days. July. 11th 2011

Written by
P7100614Well, for those of you who live in Citrus County, you know how the weather has been. Rain the last few days has made it difficult to get out and approaching storms have cut the trips short. Friday was a rain cancellation and Saturdays charter with the Coleman family was good for a few hours of fishing and we boated six red fish before the storm chased us in. I always enjoy fishing with you all and I'll see you in September. I was asked to film a Goliath grouper T.V. show for Nature Coast Outdoors on Monday. So, on Sunday my wife and I made a quick bait run, and jacks, lady fish and blue fish were on Ice ready to go. We also picked up several nice trout while doing so and all were released to fight another day. This brings us to Monday, and unfortunately another rained out day. We did make it offshore, fished for less than five minutes and had to come back in. We will hopefully have better conditions for our rescheduled trip and put Capt. William Toney on a big Goliath. Thanks everyone for all the great comments on my daily blogs and reports and I'll see you on the water... Capt. Dan
