Mainers and Trout. March. 7th 2011

Written by
P3070400A chilly start to the day this morning, but it turned out to be beautiful. I had Mark, Charlie and Michelle on board, from the great state of Maine. The group was here on vacation and were eager to sample some Citrus County fishing. We fished the flats off Crystal River and did well on the trout and a few Spanish mackerel. DOA deadly combos in the glow cal shad tail was the color of the day. The gang wanted to keep a few for a fresh fish dinner and the day was a success. Thanks for the fun day and have a safe trip back up North... Capt. Dan

Hard Earned Trout. March 3rd 2011

Written by

P3030399The winds howled out of the East, and it was definitely a challenge to find them today. I met Dennis and Bob at Pete's Pier this morning and we left the dock to breezy conditions. With no water to red fish, and it being to rough to target mackerel, we spent the day finding some trout. We covered a lot of ground and found a few trout in the back country, free lining live shrimp. Just after 1pm the wind was blowing so hard, it was just to tough to fish, so we called it a day. The guys fished hard and put 6 keepers in the box. Thanks again for the good time and enjoy tonights fish fry... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout Day 2. March 2nd 2011

Written by

P3020397The trout bite was on today and even though is was a little breezy, we did fantastic. I had Jim and Mike on board again for day two, of their second day charter and we found the big ones. The tide was extremely low this morning, so we ran a little offshore and fished the deeper grass flats off Homosassa. We didn't have the high numbers like we did yesterday, but the size average was definitely better. It was a great day with our 15 keeper trout; three being over 20" and releasing a few others in the slot. A few Spanish mackerel and even a respectable sized silver trout helped fill out the day. The DOA cal silver mullet paddle tail jig was the go to bait today. Thank you both for a very memorable couple days of fishing and look forward to seeing you in the future... Capt. Dan

P3010394Trout season started off today fantastic! I had Mike and Jim on board and I picked the guys up from their rental, on the Homosassa river. We fished the flats off Homosassa and the trout were on the feed. At one point in the day, we had a fish on our lines almost every cast for over 30 minutes. Numerous trout in the 14 1/2" to just over 15" size was the average, with a few in the upper slot. DOA glow shrimp on a 1/8oz jig head was the bait of choice. Thanks guys for the fun day and here is today's catch... Capt. Dan
