Ready to Fish!!!

I apologize for the  lack of reports, but with almost five days now of downtime due to high SW winds and constant rain showers, I've been making the best of it and tying some flies. We still have several weeks of tarpon fishing and I'm filling up the fly box with an assortment of patterns, to be on stand by. Also, I'm about a month away from my Jackson Hole, Wyoming trip and the forecast for the fishing is looking great. I'm loading my freshwater fly boxes with an assortment of patterns as well, and I'm really looking forward to heading out West. Once the weather breaks, we'll be back on the water and thank you all as always for checking in with the most up to date Crystal River/Homosassa fishing website. Good Fishing... Capt. Dan

Tarpon on the Fly...

I hit a new milestone in my fishing career today and guided Oscar and Arno to a giant Crystal River tarpon on the fly rod. Oscar is a very well respected fly fisherman in the fishing community and it was a real treat to have him on board. Also along with us for the day was Oscars guest Arno from South Africa, and he was the man with the tarpon. We fished out of my tarpon rigged Silver King skiff and as luck would have it, hooked in to a beauty. The fight was fantastic and it took and hour and ten minutes to bring the fish boat side on one of my personally tied flies. We grabbed the leader for a legal catch, watched her swim away and this day was a memorable one. Thank you both for a great time and here is Arno hooked up in action... Capt. Dan

At the Vise...

With a couple days of down time due to this February arctic cold front; I'm staying ahead of the game tying flies in preparation, for a July fly fishing trip to Jackson Wyoming. I'm really looking forward to this trip and hoping to experience some of the best cutthroat trout fishing this country has to offer. Most of my freshwater fly fishing experiences have been on Eastern streams and heading West, I'm sure, is going to be quite a change. I've been getting some great information from friends that have fished the area, and of course the Internet. I'm tying a little bit of everything to have all the nymphs, dries and streamers covered. I'll plan on featuring a few patterns from time to time and if any one out there has some additional information to share, feel free to contact me any time. Here's a couple recent patterns I tied (from left to right) Kauffmann's brown stone, Henry's fork salmon fly, Madam X and "18 cinnamon ant. I'll be on the water soon... Capt. Dan
