P7310671Grouper, flounder, Spanish mackerel, sea bass, grunts, and mangrove snapper were just some of the species we caught today out of Crystal River. Myself and Captain Mark Zorn had a outstanding day with a fun group out of Pete's Pier. I had Heath, Chuck and Matt on board and these guys beat the heat and reeled them in all day. Using DOA holographic root beer shrimp for the trout and live shrimp on a 1/8oz Hank Brown jig head were the baits of choice. It was a hot one, but the guys kept at it and they have a great catch to show. Capt. Z's team did great as well and I thank you all for a fun day... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Slam. July.30th 2011

Written by
P7300661It was day two at the Homosassa Fishing Club and my guests today, were Talbot and Jackson. We began the day running south off Chazz and loading up on the scallops. We had our 6 gallon limit and the 7ft depth range was the hot zone. We left the scallop grounds and off to the creeks, in search of some red fish for the afternoon. We covered a lot of ground and ended up with a slam. A few red fish, a trout and a little Homosassa snook filled out our afternoon. Thank you both for an awesome day and look forward to seeing you soon. Congratulations Jackson on your snook and this is one species now off your list... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Special. July. 29th 2011

Written by
P7290659We did the Homosassa special today and this consists of part of the day scalloping and the other half red fishing. I was at the Homosassa Fishing Club and it was father and son teams today. I had Alex and Hunter on board and these young men were ready to go. We started the day loading up on scallops and in a couple hours, we had our 6 gallon limit. By noon, the tide was rushing in, so we spent the afternoon catching a few red fish. We had to move around some to find them, but the guys caught their limit and released some under and over slot fish. A combination of cut lady fish and live shrimp was today's baits of choice. Thank you both for a fun day and here is a Homosassa red just under the 30" mark released to fight another day... Capt. Dan
P7270658Gene and Linda joined me again for a 1/2 day Crystal River charter and they brought their grandsons along to sample some saltwater fishing. The wind was blowing pretty good out of the south, so we stayed close to shore and targeted some shallow ledges. Mangrove snapper, sea bass, a cobia and numerous grouper kept our rods bent throughout the morning. Actually, the grouper bite was outstanding and even though they were under slot sized fish, we had them on two, three at a time. I estimated releasing well over 30 grouper on two locations, until we ran out of shrimp. Lots of action and everyone did great. Thank you for the fun morning and here is Jordon with a mangrove snapper from today's trip... Capt. Dan
