Homosassa "Long John's"...

I had to dig deep in the closet to find the long John's this morning, but I'm glad I had them on. A cold 45 degree morning was what myself and Homosassa Fishing Club anglers John, Brent and Scott experienced heading out today. I had intentions of doing some catch and release grouper action, but the brisk North wind and murky gulf waters changed our plans. Instead, we did a mixture of trout and near shore fishing to salvage the day. It was cold and we had to work for our bites, but the guys did great and had a fine mixed catch. We have a shore lunch on order tomorrow and today's catch is going to be a treat. Thank you all for the fun day and we'll see you tomorrow. Here's Brent with a beautiful gulf flounder... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Trout and Gags...

Finally, the gulf is back to normal. Although it is quite dirty,  the fish are back to feeding. The drastic 15 degree water temperature drop from earlier in the week put the fish in to shock and it took a couple days for them to get comfortable. Ryan and Chris joined me out of Pete's Pier today and the guys had a great morning jigging up some trout. The tide was running out and we targeted some grass patches around some rock bars with MirrOlure Lil' Johns in hand. It was fast action and in short order, they had their limit. Grouper season has recently closed (due to the unintelligent scientists at NOAA's Gulf Council) as of Nov. 1st, so we did some catch and release photographing. We trolled the usual good hard bottom areas in about 20ft of water and caught several grouper to finish our day. Today was another great one in the books and congratulations on your fine catch... Homosassa Trout in the Wind....

It was a day that I probably would have canceld if I had local clients, but today was the Homosassa Fishing Club Jamboree and these anglers were ready to fish. Traveling from Atlanta - Edward, David and Worth were on board and even though it was choppy and white capping, the trout bite was on and I'm glad we gave it a try. We used the islands to our advantage to block some of the North wind and we made a series of drifts, while adding a couple trout each pass. The hot colors today were glow and watermelon, and all the jigs were rigged on a 1/16th oz jig head. The guys put their limit of beautiful Homosassa trout in the cooler and I can't thank you all enough for toughing it out. Congragulations on having a great catch and we'll do it again next year... Crystal River "TROUTFEST"....

With an approaching weather change on it's way, you could tell the trout were in a feeding mood. The lowering pressure before a major storm usually turns the bite on and in today's case; Ron, Bart and John were today's lucky anglers to experience it. We left from Pete's Pier Marina after 9am and fished the best part of the incoming and outgoing tide. The trout were scatted on various structures ranging from oyster bars, shallow rocks and the "yellow" hard bottom areas with kelp grass. DOA deadly combo rigs with glow shrimp, jerk baits and root beer MirrOlure Lil' Johns were the baits of choice. It was some great fishing and some quality trout were brought to the boat. I thank you all for the fun day and congratulations on a fine catch... Capt. Dan

Crystal River Toughing it Out!!!

The Courter family was on board today and these guys put up with the elements and had a great catch. I met the guys at 8am at Pete's Pier Marina and looking over at the Power Plant, we saw that the stacks were laid over. It was a steady 15 to 20 mph NE wind, so we used the islands to block as much of the wind as we could to make the day comfortable. The trout and red fish cooperated fairly well and despite all the chop, the action stayed steady. I thank you all for the good time and coming back time and time again to experience some great fishing... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Grouper Delight....

We hit it as good as it gets today out of Homosassa and Bill, Karen and Len had a fantastic day. I met the crew just after 8am at Macrae's and made our way offshore Homosassa and the grouper bite was on. We trolled our plugs over a couple different strucutres and had our limit of hefty gags. The grouper bite was great and our next plan was adding some tasty grunts to our catch. We anchored up over some shallower rocks and caught a variety of grouper, grunts and mackerel to keep us busy. To top off the day, we made a quick drift inshore, picked up a couple keeepr trout and called it a day. i can't thank you all enough for such a great time and congragulations on your outstanding day.. It was a tough one today and it definitely makes you appreciated the good days, especially when the fish just don't want to cooperate. Brad, Greg and Richard were on board today out of Pete's Pier Marina and these gentlemen worked hard. It was extremely tough conditions with the rough, choppy waters, but we made the best of it and lucked upon a nice keeper grouper to make the day. The inshore scene was slow as well, with mostly short trout and sea bass to show for our efforts. What a difference a day makes. I thank you all for the good time and we'll hope for better weather for our next charter. Here's Greg with his nice keeper grouper... Capt. Dan

20mph Trout...

Another change in the plans from going offshore in search of grouper, to inshore targeting trout. My great clients Lee and Clell were on board for the day and even though the NE winds were in excess of 20mph at times, the guys toughed it out. We left from Pete's Pier Marina just after 8am and began our day using DOA deadly combo/MirrOlure lil' john cork rigs and soft plastic jerk baits to find some quality trout. The trout bite was pretty steady throughout the day, considering there were whitecaps mixed in at times. The big one of the day went to Clell with a hefty trout over 20" to top off our catch. I thank you both for the great day and here's their fine catch... Capt. Dan

Back Inshore...

We gave the grouper a break today, stayed inshore and targeted the trout. Lou and Glen were on board for a full day charter out of Crystal River and the steady North wind was with us once again. The trout bite was hit and miss throughout the day, with catching a couple here and there at each location. The guys did fine putting twelve nice keepers in the cooler to show for their efforts and I thank you both for the fun day. Here's the father and son team with their catch... Capt. Dan

Homosassa Trout...

Excellent trout action off Homosassa this morning and my anglers John, Richard and Lyle did beautifully. We had a shore lunch on order and with a couple hours of fishing to get in, the trout were in a cooperative mood. We used a combination of DOA shrimp, jerk baits and MirrOlure Lil' Johns and they guys had their limit just in time to have a great afternoon shore lunch. It was one of those special mornings when the bite was on and I thank you guys for the fun couple of days. I missed my crew for the end of the day shot, "foot ball games on" but here's Jimmy and Tom filling in just fine... Capt. Dan
